Car Breaking
« on: 19 March 2007, 09:59:34 »

Hello all,

I am quite interested in buying a knackered 3.0 omega.  There are a few bits I would want off of it, but then I want to try my hand at breaking it and selling on the bits to break even / make a profit.

My question is, if its been totally stripped down to a shell of its former self, how do I get rid of whats left?  Do scrap yards still want them, or do you pay for it to be dragged onto a trailer and crushed?  Any ideas, rough estimates on price etc?

Cheers in advance,

Chris.

Scrap is worth money........so people will apy to ahve it....and if its stripped, all the better as there is less work to do on it first.

Cheers Mark - so even the bare metal, plus some engine parts I would imagine would still be of value to them...  Thats good to hear, think I'll be keeping an eye out for a nice cheap one then with HG failure or something similar...

Will do mate, I hadn't forgotton!

I've refurbed 3 out of 4 of my new elite wheels, just one remaining - I'm going to post pictures of the stages of repair I've been doing - they're looking pretty good if I do say so myself!

When its done I'll be getting 4 new tyres fitted to them at the end of the month when I have some money, so I'll have the following tyres in my garage available:

2x 225x55x16 - Good Tread
2x 225x50x16 - 3-4mm Tread
2x 215x55x16 - As good as new

And of course

4x 15" Omega CD Alloys, 205x65x15 - reasonable tread on the rears, fronts are warn big time on the inside as the tracking is shot - I'll be getting this sorted when I've got my new wheels all ready to rumble..

Cheers,

Chris.

;D  You should definitely know James, how many is it now?!

I would like to do that also, but for the interim I thought I'd do this as it means my only outlay will be for the car initially, and then all the bits I sell should pay for me to do everything else that needs doing to mine (the ever growing list):

Fuel tank seal - this was not amusing in Sainsburys the other day!

Full Exhaust

Exhaust Manifold (this one scares me)

3.0 Cams :D

HBV / Stat or both

Drivers side rear door (rusty)

Finishing my wheels

Front drivers side fog light

Putting my full black leather interior in at the end of this month (might need some assistance here James if you're up for it!)

That'll do for now..

Done a few strips myself now as well

The last one when i had stripped it to a shell,  i put on ebay under car parts and advertised the shell only for £20. Someone came and lifted it for me.

If you can trailer you will get about £60 a ton scrap from the scrappies.

EVERYTHING sells from calipers / panels / switches / engine anciliaries / carpets you name it, not just the obvious things.

Ive made minimum £800 profit every time from a £200 car  :y

In fact i may have another one in on Wednesday  :y

Cheers for that markie, just what I wanted to hear :)

All I have to do is take the fence to the back garden down, roll it in, put the fence back up again so the neighbours won't despair at the scrapyard I'm going to create!
