Panorama, 8:30, BBC1. If you can tear yourself away from the forum for half an hour, it should make your blood boil a bit. It's about the post office.

What a mess. My postie looks completely down trodden when he delivers.

I also noticed that the programme was made when the weather was fine, imagine doing that in wind-lashed rain.

I have suffered many times with getting the card through the door without them knocking, and I sit by my front door.

But it all fairness, it's only the odd ones that do it   My old post lady was brilliant and I have nothing but praise for her, she retired when her time was up and she ran rings round most of the posteies half her age.

We haven't allowed anything. It's all happened beyond our control. Like everything else >:( >:( >:( >:(

Postal service used to be great, I used to get my post before leaving for work 7am and any parcels were left with the neighbour. Now it doesn't arrive till 10 am and parcels are left outside in full view rain or shine ready to be nicked. Well that was the state of affairs over the summer anyway.

i think we are trying to detoriate our service to the smae level as the US, where most people just use couriers.

I felt very sad when I watched the programme.

When I lived in England 6 years ago the postal service was first rate even to the point that the postie waited/called back till our curtains were drawn before knocking for signed for items or packages.

Regarding the programme. I wanted to ask if the postman featured's boss had actually "walked the job". If I was his manager I would have made a commitment (on a cold and wet day) to accompany him on his round and take the time to find out issues and views on what could be done.

I had a horrible sense of deja vu with what happened to BT watching the programme. Royal Mail are saddled with the universal obligation to rightly deliver to any address no matter how rural. (ditto BT with the local loop). Along comes deregulation and price caps and lo and behold all the cream goes to other companies.

It is still a far better (and cheaper service) than we get in Spain. There are very few postboxes and rural deliveries are only once or possibly twice a week and then to a central point like a bar or shop.

As Nickbat would say WAKE UP! But I suspect that this is another area of Britains wonderful heritage that is being swilled away in the name of progess.

My manager did, when I delivered the mail. It was a very cold winter morning with snow and ice on the ground.
Started at 7am finished at 10am, that was first delivery.  I ended up on my arse once, he 3 times. He gave up at 8.30 and went back to the office to get warm.
I stay indoors now sorting mail, had to my back gave up years ago. We didn't have any of those wusses trollies they go about with now.
