Do I qualify for being extremely lucky?
Driving home from Grimsby today, 10mls from home battery light started to glow/pulse didn't come on fully, just glowed then went out then glowed a bit etc, quite hypnotic.  Bu**er I thought, have the alternator bearings/regulator  finally given up ( got all the parts, haven't got round to fitting them yet

 )
Got 2mls from home, still glowing, when EML came on

 within half a mile the abs,tc, and airbag light had all come on (engine still running) then I lost rev counter, speedo, fuel gauge, the computer was telling me that there was a problem with the autobox and my headlights and on top of that, there was no power steering

 Managed to nurse the car home, every so often the dash returned to normal and the car was ok, then it would go again

Parked the car on the drive and popped bonnet could hear a knocking noise placed hand on top of cam cover felt like it was coming from there, S**t better switch engine off.
Had another look and this is what I found

The Aux belt tensioner had disintergrated

Amazingly the belt had stayed on !!  all became clear, the belt was not doing its job as it was loose (have checked belt, no signs of damage, new one on order)

Managed to get a new pulley from the local VX stealer £23 complete assembly was £58. Took  10 mins to put on

Doesn't look nice, does it.
Dash doesn't light up like a christmas tree anymore, will be keeping an eye on the pulley, just in case.
So my job for next day off will be sort out alternator bearings/regulator and fit new Aux drive belt, should be fun.
so, lucky or what ?
