Most badly named customer service dept
« on: 18 December 2009, 22:41:48 »

Following last weekends Virgin DD cancellation I phoned today and explained that we were having difficulty paying this months bill and what could I do to not be cut off over Christmas.

I'll put you through to the Payment Plan Dept the operator said.

That sounds helpful I thought.I explained to the guy that we were not able to pay immediately but could clear the outstanding balance on the 30 Dec, and is there anything we can do to not be cut off over Christmas.

'Yes' he said helpfully 'pay us the balance before 22nd'

We can't thats why I'm ringing the Payment Plan Dept.

'Have you got any friends or family that can help.'

So Virgins Payment Plan Dept consists of asking if you can tap up friends or family.

I was expecting more of a plan. ::)

i would have taken a different tak, i would have rung up and said, i don't like you any more, your crap, and i am going to Sky.

I did that for my grandfather about 8 months ago, they reduced his bill by 60%  :o

you want to speak to their retention dept, they are actually in the UK and not India, and have the power to affect your account

I used to work for them at one point they were helpful but slowly and steadily they have gone down hill since they outsourced and made anyone worth anything redundant to save a few quid :-?
Anyway now I work in banking, seems to be from bad to worse....
Anyway, little tip send a cheque in to cover payment and stop the cheque as lost in post ;)

This will affect your credit rating though

I think issuing a cheque when you know there will not be funds to cover it is illegal. It's often done, but I don't think we should be advising it here.

i dont get this, yer can put send a cheque and then stop it which to me is the same as sending a rubber one, either way no payment is made.who uses cheques anyway i think ive only used two in mi life, surely sending a cheque you intend to stop is as fraudulent as sending one you know yer funds cant cover

It is illegal in Spain to write cheques that bounce.

To be quite honest the system here where you only really have the choice of paying for all the utilities, insurances etc by direct debit is the best overall just a bit scary when there isn't enough money coming in. And once you have taken out insurance you cannot then cancel it say half way through the year.

A lot of UK companies have huge amounts of staff whose only job is to pursue outstanding money most of which is properly due. That is a cost that is passed on to other customers as an overhead.

I agree that it is properly due however I was asking for a week extension to the bill not to default completey and thought the Payment Plan Dept might mean something more than 'Can't you tap up friends and family'.---D'oh never thought to do that!!.

What's the point of a Payment Plan Dept if they don't offer a PAYMENT PLAN.

All they've succeeded in doing is driving me away so for the sake of 1 weeks grace over payment they've lost revenue from 1 customer.
Don't rightly make a lick 'o sense to me.
