From what the Police said, I reckon they know who the driver is, and have spoken to him/her already.  I'd wager the driver was pissed, so didn't stop to give details.  Probably used an excuse of "nobody was around to report to, I panic'd and drove home".

Now sober, they'll get away with drink driving and just pay for the damage caused.

I know it looked a mess beforehand but it was solid. Already got 4 new doors & was ready to paint.
Sad thing was there was no pile of rust on the road after the impact so that was a solid rear quarter considering it's nearly 49 years old.

I worked in auto refinishing  for a number of years and have sorted out worse "dings" looking at the damage I would say that it would be quite easy to straighten out given time, patience and the right tools

Gutted for you Guy :( :( :(

Small consolation that there's no rust on the road, so panel is solid enough to repair, and it hasn't been for the re-spray yet

Yep, there's always a bright side. Imagine how you'd feel if you'd just finished restoring it. :-/

About 50% of the houses on our road have a drive. I'm soooooooo glad that we are one of them.

I have a drive with workshop behind. The Consul was legally parked in the road as i've just had the block paving relaid. She was going in the workshop for a full repaint & brake overhaul...wish i'd put her in a day earlier. Good news is a mate in the trade can pull the damage out ready for painting for £150, inner wing is still sound so could be worse. New quarter panel is £250 & a cut & weld job. Ins might write her off...i hav'nt asked.
Are some folk totally devoid of common decency? If i did this my guilty conscience would'nt let me rest.

Really hope that it can be sorted out, I'm sure it can.

My first car was a '61 lowline 375 ( a very long time ago) and I remember the metal being like armour plate so there's plenty of scope for a repair.

I hope your rotten luck of late changes for the better. A very happy New Year to you. ;)

Really feel for you, I had a 375 lowline, it was one of the best cars I've owned.. :y

Whatever you do DON'T involve the insurance because I feel they will write the car off especially if you get a younger assessor who doesn't appreciate older cars.

Good luck with the repairs, it's surprising what a good panel beater can do!
