I once accidently knocked the phone off the bedside cabinet when i was half asleep & when i grabbed hold of the receiver i must pressed some 9's, i placed the receiver back & within seconds they called me back. I wondered what the hell was going on. I explained & said i was sorry. The lady was nice about it & i think she knew by my voice as to what state i was in :-[

They have the phone number (unless it's a call box) the emergency services should send a bill to the caller if it's a hoax....
Perhaps a £50 bill would put people off. :o

This one wasn't a hoax though.

 Her cat was playing with a ball of string for over two hours. No wonder she said it was doing her head in. I felt sorry for her. Should have sent a blue and twos round with a proper toy for the cat.

There is a problem with that solution, though. That being, what is the definition of a hoax?

If someone calls out the fire brigade for a non-existent fire, that is a hoax.

If someone calls the police because they hear female screams in the night, but it turns out that it is just a "domestic", that would presumably not be a hoax.

Throughout the transport network, we are bombarded with adverts that say that if we see a suspicious package, don't touch it - just call 999.

Now we have the problem that if there is the possibility of a fine, calls to 999 that MAY be of significance (but are not proven to be so at the time) will not be made for fear of incurring a fine.

Calls such as the one made by this half-wit shoudl be filtered out of the system...as I believe they already are.

I think they should take some abusive yoofs off the dole and make them earn their benefits by sitting in a room with a telephone.
When a caller such as this retard dial 999 the operator wouls simply say 'putting you through to our special person dept madam".
The yoofs could also be put on a bonus system. ie. paid per insult.
