The Future of The Printed Word

I have a personal interest in the development of the e-reader. This news is what we've all been waiting for.

Don't like them !!!  OK -- they are good for travelling ( loads of books in one sort of thing ) ... but you can't beat paper and the smell and feel of older books .....

But then .. I am a "digital dinosaur"

I personally dislike reading from screens even though I do it all day for work. When I'm reading for leisure I want to get away from screens. Also, I can't imagine a screen that works well on a sunny beach!  ;) ;D

OK .. I admit there isn't any vinyl or bakelite (?) based music in the house ( several thousand album's on MP3 tho!). Nor is there a video cassette anymore .... but I still like real books  ;D

Doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.  I prefer the tactile nature of the printed medium.

There’s something comforting about holding a book, its weight, the friendly rustle of the pages turning as it speaks to the reader in a way removed from the words printed on its paper.  The secrets held about the hands and eyes that explored its content in days past.

Books provide a real experience whilst screens remain sterile – in my unworthy opinion of course.

i like gadgets, so i should like these, but i don't.

I really don't get the point in them, it takes me weeks to read a book, why would i want to carry 100's around on a PDA like device?

Pointless things really, and will never replace the printed word.

When I find a book I enjoy it usually takes me a couple of days to read it. When on hols in the South of France I get through 4 or 5 books, between usual holiday stuff  ::)

I hardly read any more, when i did, it was on the train, so 1 hour each way, so a big book took a while.
