I'm with James here.

To have full control of a vehicle the driver must concentrate on the task in hand.  Talking on a cellular telephone, fiddling with the entertainment, system scratching an arse or other part of the anatomy, eating, drinking and so on does not promote sound control of the vehicle.

Drivers found to exhibit such traits deserve to be reported without question.

I have absolutely no argument with this...

The point was initially made, however, on a thread elsewhere and it had the square root of naff all to do with the thread in question, hence it was split to here.......

Be nice or move on, your choice.

While I've put my point across in a direct manner, I have not been disrespectful or rude.

Act as you see fit.

No one says you are disrespectfull or rude.  Its appreciated that you argue the corner for Police Officers and their actions but, have a wee reality check as regards your actual hands on experience versus that of others on here....

'Move on' meant move onto another subject, nowt else......   :y

Thanks for the clarification

Lots of hands on experience isn't something I've mentioned - or claimed to have..

In terms of a reality check - let's take stock.

An argument was presented, by andyB, to the effect of "If Police can use a radio in a patrol car, then I can use a mobile phone in my personal car".

I made the point that, sometimes, it's a necessary evil, for plod to use a radio when getting information about jobs, and this is different to Joe Bloggs taking a call.

I would argue, that I'm not discussing any of my "experience" - simply stating a fact which I'd like the person who posted that comment, to consider :y

My posts were meant as nothing more than a comparison, to try and balance the opinions :y

You cant eat or drink behind the wheel, but you can smoke.

Takes a matter of seconds to light a fag, but those seconds could result in you running down a whole line of Primary School kids out for their weekly Swim at the local Pool.

I am a smoker BTW.

You dont see many Police/Ambulance/Fire vehicles with only one occupant.  The passenger in the vehicle is the one who deals with Comms.

As for speeding...... I believe the Emergency Services have to adhere to a code which allows them to run Red Lights and exceed the speed limit BUT ONLY WHEN SAFE TO DO SO.

Back to topic.  Using a Mobile Phone when driving is proven to reduce reaction times and reduce the drivers overall concentration, even when using Hands Free.  I drive an Auto...... never use two hands on the wheel, so what difference does it make if I'm holding a Cell Phone, Sandwich, big rubber dildo in the other?  The ACT of talking to someone else is what makes the difference.  So, I also think we should be banned from carrying passengers in the car. LOLZ.

You can use CB Radio or Taxi Radio when driving, not sure where this all fits in........ :D

I use a Motorola Bluetooth for more than just driving. Keeps both hands free and the phone clean when working on the car etc.
As for Plod using hand held communication whilst driving, there's enough technology out there, so no excuse for it.

Quite appropriate in the circumstances 8-) :y

My comments were solely made to illustrate my concern over drivers doing everything but driving and had no relevance to the accumulated comments carried from the previous thread and posted here by the various protagonists. :y

I'm on a no-name malt in a plain, clear, labelless bottle.....  Perks of knowing someone who drives whisky tankers for a living.   ;)

Guessing Highland, but not too far north.  Cask strength, needing a wee lump of ice to wake it up and see it better dressed.....    ;D
