British justice and the motorist.
« on: 02 January 2010, 08:18:04 »

This idea has been on the agenda for a while now ,but the Beeb (always a mouthpiece for the government)are reporting that ministers are now going to implement it.
Motoring related fines for parking/speeding etc to be raised by £15 to provide funds to help the victims of crime. Why doesnt it occur to these cretins to make the perpatrators of the crime pay to help their victims ?
I suppose they dont want to be too hard on the average mugger/violent offender/burglar etc, as statistics have probably shown them that a lot of them reside in the constituencies of Labour MP,s. and besides, they would only be taking their benifit money back off them anyway so no new money for the exchquer.
Those affluent middle class folk who can not only afford to drive cars but also tax and insure them and have the proper registration plate fixed to their vehicles, are not only a soft target but obviously have money to spare,so we may as well relieve them of it. >:( >:( >:( >:(

When I got fined for using mobile phone, I was fined the statutory £60 plus a £15 Victim Surcharge!
Who was the Victim?

In little ole Wakefield, if you transgress you make the 'Reports from the courts' page in the local rag. Everyone has been paying the £15 victim surcharge for about a year now.

I think it´s disgusting, just another way of getting their hands on other peoples hard earned money.
Is there any way of finding out in which kitty the monies flow?
I am sure that the money will be used to fill holes in other government departments >:(

Just seen on the telly that people have been paying this £15 for crimes since 2007. They now want to add it to 'on the spot' fines and fixed penalty notices.

Not only disgusting, but is the £15 ring-fenced? I'd bet it doesn't go anywhere near the victims of crime, just into the government's general coffers (from which it likes to pay China millions).

Actually, if victims of crime should be compensated, maybe the entire electorate need to get some. ;)

New Labour, New Year = new ways of applying stealth taxes to shore up the ailing economy.

Harks back to the old Labour style of taxing anything that provides the greatest opportunity of a realistic fiscal return with the minimum of effort.

What a bloody bunch!

Agreed especially when you concider the M.P expences fiasco >:(
I have always thought that the criminals should pay to compensate for there crimes not the government AKA the tax payer.
As for any criminals quoting "I haven't got any money" what about seizing there vehicals or property and sending it to auction and putting the funds raised into a ring fenced fund to compensate victims of crime.

There was a minor rebellion in the world of officialdom when the £15 victim surcharge was first suggested.  The Magistrates themselves thought it unfair, and the court managers pointed out that it would cost more to administer than it could yield in funds for the victims of crime.

But the New Labour steamroller rolled on. :(

Now we have a Minister of Justice badmouthing the police 5 months before an election.  How intelligent can you get?  :(

Do you think that we are going the way of the states, where the Police are funded by the tickets that they issue.
