Ther reason I asked the question is because when the wife had an MX5 which needed a jump start I went to the counter with a set of jump leads but was told they were not the correct ones as the Mazda was  a 1.6 and being jump started ay a 2.5
You jest surely!!
let me guess, more expensive ones needed? ffs!

Of course not....power plays no part on it.....you could happily jump start an Omega from a Corsa

Interesting! I was led to believe that you couldn't jump a big engine from a small one as you'd knacker the alternator!
You learn somat new every day!

The key thing when jump starting anything is to rev the engine to say 2000rpm on the working vehicle for a few mins and then start the car with the flat battery.

Follow that approach and you could jump start a V8 diesel from a smart car.  :y

So Mark ..... what's your opinion of where the jump leads should be conected to? I always use the battery terminals, however some say that you should use a substantial earth (I know I know  ;D) connection on the engine/chassis .... voltage spikes???  :-/

Its easy to find, there is a plastic flap underneath with a single pozi screw, remove it and unclip the plastic cover and the PP9 comes out on its flying leads

You must be talking of the other Smart  ;D. SWMBO's Roadster's battery is under the 'bucket' that's under the front bonnet/boot. Take that out first & the battery is there
I had to do that in reverse the other morning when the Omega wouldn't start, & I borrowed the Smart to go to work.  :y :y
