Most members are fit and well and have been active helping others, not letting it get the better of them.

Positive reports about the 4x4 drivers helping others out and for once getting a good name for the big beasties.

Take a second to spare a thought for the aged, invalid and sadly those that wont ever get the chance to see annother snowfall.

Walking the hounds yesterday, i explored along the old railway line. You have to make your own way through some sections, as its not a 'propper' footpath. (dogs love it)

Reached a section which had obviously been used for sledging, i was not surprised to find a barbed wire fence at the bottom of each make shift run, most of them had zero run off, it went straight from slope to barbed wire 

Now as a kid, i knew what was a laugh, and what was going to hurt. I would never had attempted a sledge in the position that one was at

We had a case last year of some idiot killing themselves after going into a wire fence, does no one have common sense any more?

No, because we wrap our kids so much in bubblewrap nowadays (and made to feel guilty if we don't), that they do not learn proper life skills.

But the pain that followed a daft act was an important part of learning.  I do believe its wrong to hide danger from your youngsters.  Obviously, we don't want them hurt (mind you, I can thing of a few little brats ), but the lack of exposure is a problem imho...

Absolutely right TB, and that is part of the learning curve for children, and all of us even after childhood.

It is the way in which we learn about life and its dangers. 8-) 8-)

children are defenseless everywhere ..

and schools can teach them extra things to prevent self..there are many kind of accidents recorded by officials , some of those that are common also can be shown at least.. ( I dont remember any at schools except breaking my arse on ice as a lesson :-/)

We have all done daft things in the snow.  As I grew up and learned to drive, I was allways aware of kids grabbing my car for a tow after it had been reported on the news that kids were peting buses with snow balls to distract the driver so others could grab the back to ski, slide and slege from the back.

I would have hated someone to have got hurt after tagging a tow, and todays laws I would probaly get done if they hurt themselves.

With regard to the title "Snow - the Down Side", I personally have never been able to see the up side.  I've always hated the damn stuff - cold, wet, slippery, dangerous - yuck!

And I was thinking earlier today, as I watched my normally sensible neighbour carefully clearing all the snow off his car, unaware that his 10-year old son was just about to build a monster snowman right in front of it, it's not going to be all that long before I'm one of the aged that friends and family will have to look out for when we get this sort of weather.
