The Govt. are in direct charge.....
« on: 09 January 2010, 21:37:15 »

.......of gas supplies and road gritting. :-?

When told by politicians: "there`s nothing to worry about and all is well"......why is it that I feel that in reality; we`re all screwed! ::)

With the shortage, only very high priority roads are being done apparently, and no pavements.

DCC must have plenty of grit, they've been past my house twice in a week & it's not on their gritting route. My neighbour say's it's the first time in more than twenty years that they've driven past.

The government know what they're doing. They plan ahead and take our well-being and finances very seriously.

Only joking  ;)

so what do they do with all this salt for the rest of the year? or indeed since the last time it snowed? leave it in storage?

or is it sold by spring and more purchased when the cold arives?

surely it would cost a fortune to store or keep in stock?

That's a fair enough point Chris, I'm no lover of this government and resent the shambles it has made of how this country is administered but there has to be a balance formed at some point.

If this weather pattern was already established and we found ourselves in this difficulty then questions would have to be answered - quite rightly - however, how much salt held in storage is sufficient, how much is it reasonable to spend in the infrastructure of snow clearing when these events, on this scale at least, are infrequent?  There are few people, if any, who hold the correct answers.

As I understand it salt held in stock loses a proportion of its volume through evaporation - so adding to the problems of long term storage.

Sometimes when we look to apportioning blame for some matter or other the government shouldn’t necessarily be the first ass to kick.

I think the Goverment will continue to ration salt supplies and gritting until the snow has melted. Roads will be properly gritted after all the snow has melted, at which point there will be no point.  ;D

Anyway too much salt is not good for your blood pressure.  :D
