I suppose it is too much to expect local Councils to consider fitting them to the front of council vehicles (which we have paid for of course) to help clear side roads etc. A council worker may slip of course so this could not be allowed.

Even in America the king of legal actions had this, every bus, every bin lorry, every public service vehicle had a snow plough fitted.

Roads were totally clear!

I have witnessed that as well - I think the reason being that Americans drive everywhere, I got some strange looks actually walking through the snow to the nearest bar in Cleveland  :)

I think Debs needs one of these for the front of Lazarus Landy myself. Melt it!

I was asked to make a plough to fit on the front of the forklift when i was fabing. Simple concept of two pieces of 150X100 box section (one slightly longer than the other) for the forks to slip in, a sheet of 6mm flat & some bracings.
I used to love driving around clearing the snow off the car park, it lasted for years (they may still have it :-/)

Nah .. she needs one of these ..  :)

(for the purists ... 2 x Rolls Royce Derwent Engines (as fitted to the Meteor) strapped to a bowser ... had a marked tendency to actually melt the tarmac rather than just clear the ice and snow ...  known as MRD's (Mechanical Runway Deicer) and no-one .. but no-one wanted the job.... unfortunately I got lumbered for 2 winters .. :(  )

Good on yer Nige .......

Am I correct - I'm sure that the bowser is mounted on an AEC Marshal Major chassis?
Used to enjoy driving these when I was on the buses - we had an ex-RAF one converted into a recovery truck. 12.47 litre AV760 engine and 6-speed constant-mesh gearbox - great to drive, and would pull like a train.

Debs ....think about the fuel bill !!! :)

I know AVTUR/Jet A1 is relatively cheap, but the size of the bowser was not just to give weight - although at full chat it did stop you going backawards !! - those things drank fuel at a prodigous rate !!!

 :D :D :D :D

BTW the castors did nothing really except support the weight .. the whole thing was bolted to the bowser and it was totally in charge of directional control  (until you put one at max and one at idle .... but that was the fun part !!!! )

 :D :D :D
