With the new charging system for size/volume and weight, I can understand why postal services changed the system, especially on air freight.

So, last few days, had a bit of a splurge, shopped with 3 retailers and a load of stuff off ebay.  Nothing major, 2 boxes from ebuyer, turned up day after. no probs.

Item from amazon, thought it was free delivery, seems it cost me 5.99, didnt see it before I hit the "pay now" button.  Went back and checked, was my fault, no probs.  Pi$$ed off, still not here.

Saw an item on ebay I liked, been considering one for months, but on EB the price seemed to have gone up.  Had a look round the net, saw it at maplins @ £29.99 - free delivery over £35.  Had a nosey round found a 32 piece bit set that made the price up and placed the order.


Of all the stuff I ordered I thought a 13.5 tog Dock/down duvet would be my biggest pakage, that arrived at 8 am.  Then at 10am a box arrived 2'6" x 2' x 2', FFS- what was that I was thinking, postie said it was from maplins, ahh, lovely.  Opened the box to find a tiny 32 peice set and a box measuring 4" x 12 " x 15".  Plus oooooodles of plastic air bags.  :-/

So to sum up Maplins charged me nothing for carriage and packing, sent it in a box 4 or 5 times the size required and possibly over paid on the size for carriage (unless they have fixed price agree on all parcels)- (in that case then what a waste of resources on produce and recycling issues.)

Have to be very careful buying from amazon these days. Just before xmas I was placing an order for about 6 items totaling £150ish. I expected free post and then realised there was three different post charges as the items where not all coming direct from amazon, not to happy to use them anymore.

Oh yes and I did not go through with the order in the end.

I have been impressed with amazon latey, and yes, allthough free postage was not mentioned, neither was a postal charge till the fay it it button came up.

So yes, will be more aware in future.  Seems 3rd parties are using amazon as a front, and respect to them it has been instant delivery, but this is the skowest so far.  :(

Amazon are on the TB shitlist.  They have always tried to sneak in a charged postage option, so well wise to that.

My issues - stuff that appears to be Amazon often from elsewhere, and you end up paying hefty, unreasonable postage prices.

The biggest bugbear, though, is they (for larger items) use Home Delivery Network, a courier whose incompitence is only exceeded by Amtrak (now no longer, thank god)

Agreed. Home Delivery Network seem to be a collective of gyppos with beaten up old Trannies who'll dump a package anywhere just to get shot of it - or not bother to leave a calling card when they return it to depot.  >:(

If ebay are supposed to be tightening up on what sellers charge for postage, ie rip people off with P & P

To quote our local Maplin manager, "everything on the shelf is overpriced, cheap chinese crap".

I wouldn't dispute what he says either, just one look at the finished product is enough to confirm he is telling the truth.

What I can't get my head round is :-/......why have most posted positive feedback before actually fitting or testing the thing. If was to buy one (no chance) I'd want to test before I add my big fat negative :y

Amtrak - don't get me started. Were supposed to be delivering our new tv. Left a calling card to say they had tried when we weren't in. Called the depot and they denied all knowledge of the package (think the driver bagged himself a nice new tv). It then took three weeks to get the vendors to send another one as they didn't believe we didn't get the first one.

Amazon - ordered a xmas present off there and paid for express delivery. Ordered on 18th December and delivered on 12th January!! Stuff that I ordered after that and put on free delivery was delivered in time for xmas. >:( >:(
