Yellow lines
« on: 17 January 2010, 12:56:48 »

Just food for thought, why do we have yellow lines to stop you parking?
The yellow lines were introduced to stop people parking in places that would slow traffic.
The councils and the government are now trying to slow the flow of traffic. Speed bumps etc.
So why then, do we still have them?
Shouldn't we be allowed to park where we want ( within reason ) thus slowing the flow of traffic as per government requirement!

I wonder how much revenue they aquire each year in parking fines.
They don't care if you drive fast. They care about money.
Yellow lines, cameras etc

Years and years ago, I used to live in an unfashionable mews house in the middle of London.  Opposite was a posh specialist garage where the fixed all the electrics on Ferraris and Maseratis and the like.

One day, Westminster council came along and painted yellow lines down the mews.  As soon as they'd gone, the bloke from the garage came out with a tin of grey paint and painted out the yellow lines in front of his place business.

He got a good good cheer from the rest of the inhabitants, but nobody else dared to follow his example.  A far as I know, he never got into any trouble for it.  And he never got a ticket, either. :) :)

Unfortunately there are untold people out there who are truly not capable of thinking for themselves, hence we have "laws" that take in to account just about every possible outcome of any given action.

The only difference between now & 10 years ago is that the government have realised that people break these "laws" (intenionally or otherwise) every day of the week, and it's a good money earner.
