Telephone/broadband...is this a good deal.
« on: 17 January 2010, 11:26:33 »

We currently pay £12.50 each month....for our line rental from B.T.....and a reasonable £9.99 each month for 8mb broadband from pipex.

However from February.....pipex have informed us that they are to double the price for our broadband connection to £19.99. :'( :'( :'(

Pipex have now suggested an inclusive package .....of line rental.....8mb broadband connection.....plus free weekend and evening calls for £20.98 each month.
Is this a  good deal.........or can we do better?.  :y :y

I'm guessing the line being provided by the Whorehouse.

My mum was with the whorehouse, but went back to BT, due to problems. Can't remember her ISP - plusnet I think, but could be wrong - sure she only pays around a tenner a month for ISP.  Mind you, she's of a generation that browsing and email is all she does. Oh, and VoIP.  No newsgroups, no p2p, no streaming etc...

I'm with Orange and pay £15 a month including line rental, broadband all calls inc international via a second line which is included.
Do have to have a Orange mobile to make it this cheap though i think.

Pipex were taken over by Tiscali, who were taken over by Talk Talk so you're really with the Carphone Warehouse. I got the same letter and am currently looking for other options ::) ::)

Sky or BT are looking most likely at present

Tiscali/TalkTalk £18.48 a month.
Bit annoyed about that as I'm currently on the 8meg  (getting just below 7meg here), unlimited d/load, line rental and free weekend calls (which I've never used...not one call in 2 years) for £14.99.
So basically, even though it's still a good deal for what it is, they're now part of TalkTalk and are going to charge me £3 odd a month for something I don't use.

Will look at changing, but I've not had one glitch with my Tiscali connection in 2 years. Don't want to end up saving a few pounds only to end up getting problems.

This was my first choice, but Orange said I couldn't have it as I was too far from the exchange (I'm 1.4 km away) or there was something already on the line (brand new BT line).
BT said I'd get 256kb at best.  :-?
Managed to speak with an Open Reach (BT) techie and he said just go for whoever will provide a service and they'll address any problems when up and running.
Went with Tiscali and the various d/load speed checkers all show I'm getting a few Kb's below 7 meg. :y
May try Orange again as I've had an Orange moby for over 10 yrs, so no issue with that side of things.

Im the same! Bit pee'd off that price is going up because Talk Talk took over Tiscali.
The service may change once Talk Talk have migrated 'us' Tiscali customers over to their servers....better or worse  :-/

TalkTalk & Tiscali are universally accepted as 2 of the shittiest providers going to start with, it's hard to imagine you being any worse off IMO  ;D

Tiscali actually have a good reputation for the mostpart. Admittedly they have pissed off a handful of big downloaders, but then the infrastructure wasn't built for people to take the piss. No low cost service is.

They have good satisfaction results, good customer retention, poor results for customer services. Also, well regarded in the wholesale market.
