What's it worth?
« on: 10 January 2010, 22:31:45 »

Please admins don't move this as i'd like everyone to see it.
MV6 3.0 manual est. in the for sale section. I've just been asked "Does this car have any stigma attached?" & advised of PM values. He did'nt disclose names & i asked him not to but it would seem s**t sticks. This is my car since yesterday, i paid Mark cash for it, if i did'nt have the Beastie i'd keep it myself...really i would. One member (no he did'nt tell me & i'd rather not know) said £500??? best was £900....close. I don't deny trying to make a few quid, who would'nt? I just hope folk are'nt lowering the value because of whose car it was, that's not the car's fault, she's been pampered & treated like a baby. I hope MM's recent bad press has'nt tarnished your views.
I understand many of you hav'nt seen the car & i hav'nt posted pics cos it's filthy (as is the Beastie) but the hose is froze so can't wash.!! ::)   I'd appreciate what you all think she's worth, no obligations & i'll post some mucky pics as she is tomorrow if it's still light after work. :y

IMHO the only reason for the knowledge of a previous owner making any difference to the price is very simple ...

If it was known that the previous owner was a bodger, didn't care for the car, drove stupidly, wouldn't spend a penny more than he had to .... the value would decrease as the car would be at greater risk of failure.

If it was known that the previous owner was a competent mechanic, spent many hours caring for the car, drove within the cars limits, spent what was needed to keep the car as best as posible.....  the value would rise as the car is at a reduced risk of failure.

The ONLY element of personality therefore that enters the argument is how he cared for the car .. not if he was nice or nasty, generous or tight, etc etc.....

However I can understand folks questioning the second of the above two statements IF they are unsure of his honesty.... for any reason.... they could legitimately question if the reported work/care  was actually done or just talked about.

That then leads to you being the seller .. not him .. and how you back up any claims made by him in the past ...and the question is then one of your honesty, which IMHO is beyond reproach.

Thus within the forum I would suggest it's value is slightly increased by its provenance, but outside the forum it matters not a jot ...  :)

SPOT ON Entwood & Sir Skruntie. Yes that is the car. Yes i won't deny Mark had a heavy foot at times as do i with the Beastie as did the gentleman i purchased her from. Difference is between driving a car hard & thrashing them...never fronm cold & never into the rev limiter...ever. More importantly is regular oil/filter changes, constant wishbone & bushes...i could go on.
This estate has been driven & pampered, checked over, valeted & loved inside & out same as the Beastie.
       Viewing welcome. :y

Just a thought. I got a pm lastnight asking me if the v5 is in my name. I guess folk might understandably be thinking i'm selling the car on MM's behalf. The car IS mine now, money has changed hands & i have the V5, mot, leather book with some history & she's parked in my drive. The only thing i don't have is the spare key which Mark forgot but i can get it. Mark has signed the v5 & left it with me. I hav'nt filled it out & sent it off as given she only has previous 4 keepers am hoping to pass her on to one of you without adding another owner If you really want me to register her in my name to prove a point then i will but but only if your'e buying. Given some of the pms that were sent to a member lastnight regarding the value i can only assume my request to ignore the previous owner & take the car on it's merits have been ignored. 3 of you PM'd a member with values of £500 to £900. said member did'nt disclose your id's & i did'nt ask him too but feel this was a tad underhand. Any good manual MV6 is worth a grand. Whoever said £500 that is just silly please keep further comments to yourself thankyou. £900 is close, i hoped for £1200 being rare but a grand would suffice given the time of year & the obvious predjudice & distrust this has caused. I may be a total gobs*te but i'm NOT a liar. With the front & rear irmy kits £250 headlights, recaro leather, bose, 19inch alloys, sweet 3.0 manual engine & manual box she's worth more to break which would be a crying shame. I've advertised her here first to keep her within the fold. If she does'nt sell on here soon then i wiil put the V5 in my name & put her on ebay with a new mot later in the year'
I'm only trying to help a mate out (who would'nt) & offer one of you a peachy rare Mig. I can't help but feel if this had'nt been MM's car & not me selling it the response would be a tad more positive as the car speaks for itself. Guy.
