I failed my 1st test, but passed my 2nd (Which in my opinion should have been the other way round)

Then as soon as I dropped my instructor off I shot off up to my mates at Todwick to take him for a drive round.  Picked him up turned right at the end of his road and promply stuttered to a halt 300 yards up the road.

Turned it round and tried to bump start it on a level side road (half a tank of fuel - so had'nt tun out) could not get it started, (Me pushing as well)  Then tried bump started it down the hill, all this was after flattening the battery, even tried the foot slowly down to the floor trick and then trying to start in case it was flooded, eventually flatted the battery.

As we gave up and called a mate out from work we were waiting next to my poorly van (Vive HA) when we heard a bit of a bang and a grinding noice.  As we looked up we saw a 3 wheeled mini scewed towards the kerb where it had come to a stop and just in time to see the wheel pass us, carry on down the hill and then follow the road up hill and to the left untill we lost sight of it.

Was every so funny and eased the stress on what was simply a blocked get in the zenth card on my van, bump started it and away, never suffered the problem again.

Did any thing memorable happen the day you passed/failed your driving test.



Something a bit similar to the mini wheel, but the mini wheel kept on going.

My original bike test was scheduled for Sept 82, however I had to apply for a new date as I would have been back at college that day.
To be honest I wasn't overly impressed with a September date, mainly because back then I knew there was a good chance of the weather being crap.

Eventually got the new date, which was 10 days after I turned 17 (middle of June).
Sweet as a nut thinks I, piece of piss to do, and I have to pass because I am one of the last to secure the original "20 mins around the block with the examiner stood around like a spare prick at a whores wedding" type of test.

Well f**k me backwards, come the day of test it is a f**king monsoon, but I still secured the pass certificate.

Other than, nothing memorable at all (except the examiner NOT actually stepping out as he said he would for my emergency stop part of the test  )

I recall witnessing an aged VW camper lose it`s offside rear at about 50 mph......and being transfixed at the sight of this disembodied wheel rolling (and bouncing) 'carefree' down the road with cars and pedestrians parting like youthfully-lank hair on a windy day to avoid it!

i remember the day i passed and after my instructor dropped me back off at work(he wouldnt let any tutor drive after passing their test)and pulled out of the yard dancing round sticking twos up at him he was a fah@@kin weirdo,didnt know which i was most glad about passing or gettin shut of him and i passed first time too

Car test.
Nothing happened apart from i passed

On my bike test.
It peeeed it down, it was freezing cold (so was i) & i almost got wiped out by an Artic (before they had limiters & the bike wouldn't go faster then 53mph). I didn't pass, but that didn't stop me, i still rode my GS1000

'Twas market day in the town i took my test in so we spent a good half of the test stuck in traffic, anyone could have passed i reckon.....that's not to say i was a crap driver tough

The examiner that passed me purposefully took me down a freshly surfaced road with lose stones all over it for the emergengency stop.  He said when he tapped the note board on the dash he wanted me to do an emergency stop etc etc.

Going down the road I had one eye on the road and one eye on his board, as soon as he moved his hand I was ready, and as soon as he hit the dash I stabbed the brakes and locked all 4 wheels as hard as possible, the sod in the passenger seat lurched forward and just before he hit the screen I had realesed the brakes and hit them again a bit gently this time, they locked again so I realeded them and pressed them again, he was out to try and fail me from the start, as I thought I had allready failed I didnt care.

Allthough he said I had a couple of marks againt me he was rather impressed with the emergency stop and my ability to adapt to varying road surfaces.

I had earlier been told to allways drive forward at a juction unless told otherwise.  We got to a juction on the main road that was at 45 degrees to the main road but had a juction opposite, I went to go oppsite and straight accross the roas he said he wanted me to follow the angle of the road.

I protested and said he hadnt made himself 100% clear, and because I ahd done everything right at the junction he digressed and let me have the pass based on the rest of it.

Not if you reacted correctly.

Am 48, passed my test in 79.

In an emergency. Brake immediately. Try to avoid braking so harshly that you lock your wheels. Locked wheels can lead to loss of control.

Skids. Skidding is usually caused by the driver braking, accelerating or steering too harshly or driving too fast for the road conditions. If skidding occurs, remove the cause by releasing the brake pedal fully or easing off the accelerator. Turn the steering wheel in the direction of the skid. For example, if the rear of the vehicle skids to the right, steer immediately to the right to recover.

I was taught that if you were on the ball, you wouldn't have to worry about correcting a mistake 

Am 48, passed my test in 79.

Got my bike license in June 82, car license in July 82.

First car was a MK1 3 litre Granny (manual box), paid £200 for TPFT insurance with a provisional license, and got £20 back for passing my test so soon after getting the car.

Those were the days

As I couldnt find someone to bring me to my licence test (father was many hundred kms far at that moment)  I took the car and go lonely.. 

fortunately nobody ask me "who bring you here".. and I got the license at this day.. :-/

I passed my bike test in 1977....on a 'P' reg 1976  Yamaha RD250.....the model with the words "torque induction "....on the side panels........ happy days...

As I think I've mentioned before, I passed my test 5th time round.  I didn't have access to a family car, had to finance my own driving lessons and could only afford six at a time.  So it was six lessons, take test, fail, six lessons, take test, fail repeated over a couple of years.  I eventually scraped together enough money to buy a car and a sensible driving course.  I told the garage that I would be along to pick up the car at noon.  I had my driving test at ten o'clock. 

Don't quite know what would have happened if I'd failed again.
