Bloody typical
« on: 26 January 2010, 10:54:40 »

Went to look at a job this morning (complete rewire), the original plan being to meet the surveyor on site to let him do his thing while we did our's.

I was a little bit late in getting there, but no big deal as my oppo had it covered.
As the surveyor is going around the house (currently used for multiple occupancy), he opens the door of one of the fitted wardrobe's in the bedrooms and finds a step ladder there.

Going up the ladder (through the hole cut in the top of the wardrobe), and squeezing ourselves through the gap that should have been occupied by 2 joists revealed a full on skunk factory.

A quick count up showed at least 60 plants in the loft area, and the old bill were still finding more in other rooms as we were leaving.
We've been told we can't enter the property until plod is done as it is now considered a crime scene......if only that bloody surveyor hadn't been there  :(

Shame on you for not noticing the wiring before the surveyor clocked the ladder!  They're not reknowned for hiding atrocious cabling I'm told.  ;D

Reminds me of a mate of mine from University.

Sloped off down to the end of his parents' garden for a crafty fag and went into their disused greenhouse. Turns out his older brother had previously had a bit of a horticultural interest and, whilst he'd long since moved out, he'd obviously not thought to cover his tracks with a bit of pathclear.

I think he cleared out several bin liners full, the sale of which kept him in beer for a couple of terms. :o

What a bitch, you could have charged 10 times the going rate and been as high as a kite during the re-wire.   ::) ::)

Is that the place in Scotland? If so, shouldn't it have a capital letter?

We were only there to price it for a rewire (as well as let the surveyor in), not to examine the existing installation.

As far as the homebrew electrics went, all the tenant did was a simple meter bypass (which didn't escape our attention BTW).

Sure you dont live in Great Yarmouth? the area is full of people growing their own. Not so long ago a police chopper with infra-red was searching for someone when they noticed this "glow" from the top of this old empty hotel. No guesses as to what the local Vietnamese were doing ;D

No different all over the country, in Sheffield there is a shortish but very busy road full shops, one of them had been boarded up for years and no one understood why untill this hit the news.
