i like the idea, can release police choppers for more vital tasks, should imagine those drones can stay up for much longer than a chopper, and use fraction of the fuel.

Been covered here : http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1264438210

The CAA is currently reluctant to license UAVs in normal airspace because of the risk of collisions with other aircraft, but adequate "sense and avoid" systems for drones are only a few years away.

Oh, really? Because they're facing a lot of opposition to that at the moment (everything that flies will need a transponder, at owner's expense).

what next?
What do you mean "what next"?

The old bill have had drone craft for years, the only thing that is changing is the altitude they can reach and the length of time they can stay airborne.

Anyway, drone craft are the least of your problem if you are that paranoid....the various spy satellites that orbit the earth have been able to zoom in so far as to be able to read the news articles in the paper you are holding on the street for years now.

Drone aircraft have been on TV programs quite a lot recently, especially in the states where most of them are testing the solarpowered ones.

In the UK as well they have shown the use of Telescopic Camera's that extend over roof tops to catch pimps and drug dealers opering in the town /city centres, they also have mega zoom capabilities and full remote/record faculities to aid in court evidence.

And you can guarantee that they will be used for all the wrong reasons and rarely used properly for the right reasons.Just as the anti terror laws dont stop terrorism but are often used to spy on people who may have given a false address when applying for a school place or put the wrong kind of rubbish in their dustbins. After all that has happened to individual freedom in the last decade, I find it astonishing that anyone can be naive enough to approve of this type of thing, and still buy into the "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" 'dangle berries'. :( :(

Just look back over the years mate.
While the government haven't managed to take away original thought in itself, they have seen to it that enough laws have been introduced so that you will pay if you dare to act on that original thought  ;)
