Knowing the Toyota drivers around here, the pedal would never get close enough to the mat to get caught, if it did it would do the general public a great service  ;)

Recall the drivers instead  :P

You are quite correct CTP that horrid pedal of my Prius has seldom seen the floor of the car :o :o

May I be recalled to London - please?

Pruisesesese should not be allowed out of the congestion charge zone as the drivers seem determined to drive just on electric at 27mph everywhere with a holier than thou expression.  Do they not realise that over the whole life of the car they are highly polluting because of the material used and their complexity will see them uneconomical to repair before a standard car.  Plus out of town they are more polluting than a modern diesel.

I HATE them and their clueless, infuriating drivers

Burn them

I HATE them and their clueless, infuriating drivers

Should I consider myself suitably chastised CTP?

Burn them

Me or the car? :-/ :-/ ;D :y

Yes and ....the Prius  ;D ;D

Thank you CTP, I always like to where I stand ;D ;D :y

I believe it is called the toyota Pious. ;D

Does anyone else see a Prius on the road and suddenly get the desire to scream past, grinning, with their V6 practically at the rev limiter?

I'm sure they are saving CO2 emissions but they cause plenty more from my car. :P

Kevin

You are quite correct Keven I have intimidated on many occasions in this way and have been left, as a result, with a terrible inferiority complex :'( :'( :(

Do a lap in the Prius, you'll feel better as you are ****helping the world****and all the children****won't someone PLEASE think of the children****

Oh dear-my commute is littered with the 27mph critters-its obviously affecting my sanity  ;D ;D

Thank you for that boost in confidence CTP, I shall continue my crusade (in the non-conquering sense of course) ;D ;D ;D :y

I suppose they would have more of a negative effect on the environment if they were all set alight  ;D ;D

Exactly, there are negatives to each proposal and I'm very sympathetic to that conundrum. :( ;D ;D

At the very least - as the offending vehicle is dispatched across a moody sea in a flaming longship;

I think that the Pious is a joke,as mentioned earlier the whole life cost of the vehicle makes it awful(building and running) It is sh1t at anything more than being a piece of engineering to keep the greens happy(but failing) mpg is a joke in comparison to most modern diesel cars driving in the real world.The purchase price is excessive to say the least and it looks like it was designed by a six year old.Then again what do I know? :-?

CTP congratulatoins on the Knighthood!

Now time for you to extol the virtues of caravans to the masses!  ;D :y

I'm very pleased to learn of your informed and objective opinion on the Prius, H.

May I assume that you have either owned one or had use of one for an extended period to show such conviction?

I have owned a Prius for three years now.  I'm not a rabid environmentalist and my motives for the purchase were explained in a thread raised here some time ago.

I found the purchase price (new) to be quite acceptable when one considers the specification of the vehicle, and 'real world' costs up to the moment have been more than pleasing:

£15 per year excise duty;

No London congestion charge;

Modest insurance costs;

35 litres of fuel every six weeks or so;

Approximately £280 so far in scheduled servicing costs.

Far from being a piece of engineering to keep the 'greens' happy and of course being designed by a six year old, the Prius (launched in 1997) was an innovative attempt to address the question of motive efficiency in the coming environmental age as well as being part of a business strategy.

It's not the complete answer of course but at least it was a start. Diesel fuel was not considered to power the vehicle at the time due to concerns over NOx and fine particulate matter .

In essence the Prius is a well made, reliable, comfortable little car that doesn't cost a lot to run and will be replaced with a new one shortly.  I should also point out, not that it should really matter, I most certainly am not a tree hugger and as such I have no guilt about the Range Rover L322 that will be joining it. :y

Hi Zulu I'm glad you like your car,I only had the pleasure of one for six weeks.I don't pay the congestion charge either as I avoid the bloody place.Yes I agree it is a start towards a solution but it just doesn't get my vote.At motorway speeds it is not as econmical as claimed or that much fun to drive at that sort of speed either.

I have only seen and sat in the new Prius but it still doesn't do it for me,then again I have got a motorbike to enjoy the roads of this nation.The bike is less polluting than almost all the cars on the road and if bikes were emission charged for taxation then I wouldn't have to pay a penny.(It will never happen) with sensible riding I can get close to 60 mpg, on the other side of the coin I can get to sixty in about 4.5 seconds and easily exceed the speed limit like many expensive cars.I am too old to go too quickly though.

I'm glad you have also got a Range Rover you are one of the few Prius owners that seem to have both feet on the ground and realise there is more to life than the Toyota option for travel. :y

Thank you for your reply H. 8-) :y

I’m glad that you had the opportunity to try one and find no difficulty in the fact that you didn't like it.  In many ways the compromise between blending electric power and liquid fuel power makes the end product either a love/hate thing.

As you point out the car does have its shortcomings - and I still prefer the larger cars for going on a journey - but I forgive the Prius its failings as it remains, to me at least, quite an engaging little car.

At the end of the many discussions around the worth of the Prius it still is merely a car for getting around in.  It shouldn’t be held as a panacea for the planet’s environmental ills by owners keen to make a statement about their planet loving credentials.

Now, Prius owners of that opinion can quite rightly be labelled as being pious in a Prius. :y
