I think that the Pious is a joke,as mentioned earlier the whole life cost of the vehicle makes it awful(building and running) It is sh1t at anything more than being a piece of engineering to keep the greens happy(but failing) mpg is a joke in comparison to most modern diesel cars driving in the real world.The purchase price is excessive to say the least and it looks like it was designed by a six year old.Then again what do I know? :-?
CTP congratulatoins on the Knighthood!
Now time for you to extol the virtues of caravans to the masses!

I'm very pleased to learn of your informed and objective opinion on the Prius, H.
May I assume that you have either owned one or had use of one for an extended period to show such conviction?
I have owned a Prius for three years now. I'm not a rabid environmentalist and my motives for the purchase were explained in a thread raised here some time ago.
I found the purchase price (new) to be quite acceptable when one considers the specification of the vehicle, and 'real world' costs up to the moment have been more than pleasing:
£15 per year excise duty;
No London congestion charge;
Modest insurance costs;
35 litres of fuel every six weeks or so;
Approximately £280 so far in scheduled servicing costs.
Far from being a piece of engineering to keep the 'greens' happy and of course being designed by a six year old, the Prius (launched in 1997) was an innovative attempt to address the question of motive efficiency in the coming environmental age as well as being part of a business strategy.
It's
not the complete answer of course but at least it was a start. Diesel fuel was not considered to power the vehicle at the time due to concerns over NOx and fine particulate matter .
In essence the Prius is a well made, reliable, comfortable little car that doesn't cost a lot to run and will be replaced with a new one shortly. I should also point out, not that it should really matter, I most certainly am not a tree hugger and as such I have no guilt about the Range Rover L322 that will be joining it.
