"Each to their own" is an oft said phrase .......

Got me an eMac a few years back, and have no issues with it.

Well, that is a proper computer, where you can choose what you want to install on it, so no problems there. :y

I reckon the iPad will be locked down to doing what Jobs wants you to do, and running what he wants you to run. No thanks.

First flaw I can see in the plan is that it's got no keyboard. So, no posting on OOF. :(

Speaking of battery life, my brother has just got a netbook. (can't remember which one :-[) and try as I might I couldn't run the thing down when we stayed over a couple of weekends back. He reckons he gets 7 or 8 hours out of a charge.

I am tempted to get one to replace the sh1te sony XP laptop from work that I seem to use most of the time (only because I can use it in front of the telly ::)).

apple version of a net book as i nderstand it, but dont remember vista or w7 making tv news headlines? (or did it?),
must say though, if the gay pad doesnt roast my lap like a lap top does i may be interested...but as said it wont be proportionately priced in pounds, as usual...

Problem is, get a £250 Netbook and you can bin the hobbled version of windows 7 and put Linux on it whereby it becomes as useful as a real computer.

Can you remove the iCrippleware from this box and do something useful other than pose in the office and buy overpriced, over compressed music downloads from crApple?

That's what I'd like to know. ;)

Kevin
No prizes for that answer....surely?
I've seen apple lap top owners sit down in a room and look around for a reaction with a smug grin as they open the lid, and then look obviously disspointed as nobody "noticed".... how apallingly sad.

But on the other hand i hate lap tops in general due purely to the heat and poor battery life, i dont suppose Cripple will have solved those issues with this latest attention seaker. But to be honest i'll never use a laptop to its full potential and probably couldnt justify the cost of even a net book for the use it'll get... :-/

i've never opened my macbook and looked around for a reaction, that would be odd - it's just a small laptop that's a bit better in every possible way :y.
it can sit on my lap for hours - and never heats up...is that a problem with most lappys? :o
theres another reason to love it  ;D

oh and as to the guy looking around for a reaction? you noticed  ::)

re lap top temp, Mrs G has a dell. The battery, which never lasted more than an hour, is past it and now only lasts 10 mins, meaning its costantly plugged in the nearest mains socket which increases the heat level from quite warm to hot almost instantly. I presume most lapys are similar as there are lap top trays available to keep it off your lap! Her brothers dell, same but older, has slightly singed stickers on the back. :o

Problem is, the laptop works on the fundamentally flawed principle of having to cram a desktop machine into a portable device, with all the cooling and power consumption problems that entails, because the software people are required to use doesn't scale down to running on a less powerful machine.

Devices like this could break that by allowing the basics - surfing, e-mail, etc. to be carried out without the full complement of M$ bloatware being required. Not without a keyboard, they won't, though. ::)
