How much is my Elite worth?
« on: 29 March 2007, 20:30:30 »

2000 V Reg Mini-facelift 3.0L saloon.  EVERY option, very good condition, runs great, service history, 2 owners, 152K.  New; cambelt, cam cover gaskets, wishbones, shocks, alignment.  Recent; HBV, oil cooler, exhaust, etc.  Front seat heaters and OSR leccy window don't work.

Thinking of selling late summer, want to know what it is worth so I know how much more to spend on it.

I'm willing to drop it off at the scrapyard for nothing like I did with the Rover 214 if that's all it's worth.  Just want to know before I waste any more money.

Now, now. You know its worth something. But, its the old omega conundrum, is it worth selling it for very little when you can keep it and enjoy it?

I would have thought you could get nearly, if not as much as you paid for it, advertised properly.

That's more what I was thinking.

STMO - as you can see in my other post I am not enjoying it right now, and not sure about spending the money to put it right.  Not sure that I can, since I do not like the transmission.  That makes fixing the rest of it probably not worthwhile.

Its a psychological thing I'm afraid Theo. Once you get it into your head that you just dont like a car anymore, its real hard to change that feeling. I've been there. I had a saab 9000 that I suddenly hated (because bits were going wrong) I sold it for a song and then regretted it for ages. Think on it before you let it go for nothing, you wont get much for the money you sell the omega for.

Yeah, that's why I'm willing to get rid of it cheap when the time comes, even fixing it is cheaper than replacing it.  I can't do anything else until this summer, but the shocks and the tranny are really aggravating me.  The rest of the car is really really good, but I really don't like driving the car now.

Hopefully late summer I will be able to buy something else.  Without being able to improve the tranny and get more headroom, I'll never be completely happy with the Omega.  The rest of it is just a matter of a reasonable amount of money, which might be able to be justified except for those issues.

You are welcome to drive the MV6 to see if the issue is with your car, or Omegas in general...

Thanks again for the offer.  The shocks are definitely 'my car', hopefully they will soften up but maybe someone else needs to take it down a rough road several times b/c my back isn't liking it at all.

The tranny is almost certainly the software.  The update seems ever so slightly worse in the behaviour that annoys me, but not really different.  I think it is more that the frustration has built up.  If you drive the car hard then the tranny is fine.  However, I don't want to drive like that all the time, and it is especially annoying when following traffic at the standard 45-50 in a 60 zone.

Before the s/w update, I used to lock in 3rd.... ...don't now though.

I can try that.  I use the sport mode a lot more now, it is much more usable with the update.

I reckon so too, especially with all the work done...
