They cannot pay terrorists ;)

And they shouldn't, particularly in this case - there has been enough media coverage of these dangerous waters over past 2yrs, but still they chose to sail. Tough titties.

100% agree - no one would be safe if it was known to pirates that the British Government pays for the release of hostages, i'm afraid it's one of the reasons that sailing round the world is exciting - because of the danger - and to sail anywhere near "Pirate Bay" ffs - clue's in the title people  :(

I agree that we shouldn't be paying up, and that their choice of destination could have been wiser.

I am disappointed that the government haven't sent the SBS in to slot a few of the pirates and get them out though. I would hope British citizens would get a bit more backing when travelling abroad.

I feel sorry for this couple, but cannot help thinking they brought it on themselves, these are educated people. What on earth were they thinking of when they sailed of into the sunset?
I hope they get home safely, and Yes I believe that there will be some sort of SBS/SAS rescue sometime soon, especially as that video has emerged. It is not as if these pirates are like a fully trained army, it will be like a training execise for the SAS/SBS. don't you think.

The do-gooders, like that ugly bitch from Liberty, would prevent the world's navys going in and blowing the pirates out of the water.

I suppose they could try to bomb the Somalians, but that would mean bombing vast areas of Milton Keynes. Mind you, thats no bad thing :P

Agree fully with you TB :y :y :y

This couple knew what they were  heading for when sailing into those waters.  For the British government to ever pay a ransom sets a very dangerous precedent, and would endanger any British citizen abroad, with ever increasing demands from criminals for ransom payments after a kidnap.  The British government would end up being  a 'cash cow'.

I seem to recall Kevin that according to the media Special Forces were being readied to rescue this foolish couple, but something was leaked and the action was halted! ::) ::)

That'd be fairly typical. No doubt they have to endure "embedded journalists" too these days. >:(

Mounting an operation inland in such hostile territory can prove to be a very difficult mission.  This is made more so when the hostages - as in this case - have been separated and are constantly moved around.

In addition the crucial intelligence to enable such a mission appears to be of an incomplete nature.

I do agree however that many of these pirates should be capped when identified on the high seas.
