Im so confused with visa's. Says on the embassy's website not to book anything before applying for the visa, but then it says i need an invitation even for a tourist visa. Then it says that hotel booking can be used as an invite. :/  :-?

........it makes me so sad to think of the lives lost and blighted; both now and in the forthcoming generations.

There is a charity that brings children from affected areas of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine for holidays away from the elevated daily radiation-exposure; I read that even a short 'holiday' away from the exposure can extend their lives by several years.

Oceansoul, might I ask: Are you holidaying or going on a research/cultural trip?

Well, its not so much a holiday. A few of us (including a Russian friend of mine) have always want to go to see the site and the town of prypiat.

Fascinating place, I recommend phoning the Embassy - Ukraine and Russia change their Visa regulations like I change my mind.....

AFAIK you don't need a visa to visit the Ukraine if you are a GB passport holder. But to confirm i will ask somebody that i know who travels there a lot. There is a group of us supposed to be going over in June for a stag do and to visit Chernobyl and Pripyat....

Yea i read that too. I tried to call the embassy today but got no answer. It goes on about fees for visas on the website, which led me to believe we need one.

Im UK passport holder btw lol My friend im going with, has Russian and Finnish dual nationality so she can visit Ukraine Visa free with her russian passport. >:(

Correct Debs a number of local people in where I live give them a home whilst they are over here. Local businesses are asked to help out with donations. They have a party and disco before they return and we have donated the catering for them. It breaks my heart when I go to set the buffet up to see these young people and think that they only have a few more years to live. That said they seem so happy to be over here and enjoy every moment. It really puts things into perspective

remember reading a blog on it of some guy who did the tour there, you are only allowed to touch the ground for a limited amount of time, and you are not allowed to put objects (eg hat) on the ground.

He held a geiger counter to the ground and it went nuts  :o

My Mum has alot to do with this charity. We've collected toys & clothes for them over the years & the look on their faces when they're presented with it all is very heart warming. They're just such lovely kids with a really hard life to live. Makes me sick when i see kids in this country moaning about things.
They should live there for a week or so.
