I called these peeps today and they will not take a penny less than £4999.00 as it is booking at more and is a rare colour and spec with low miles.

As the Queen has said  ::) there will allways be another, walk away.

But remember this, if you did go to buy, go to the dealer, have a look at anything but the Mig and let them do the talking, then all I would have done is said, I like the  size of that Omega but dont like the colour, then let the salesman do his job, if you stook to 4K  and pushed it, you would get the sale.  Dealers start high and come down, they never know what the part ex deal will be, and very rarely does a customer pay cash, when they do they hold the trump card but very rarely know it. :y

Disagree strongly.

A car is worth what someone is willing to pay. You might not be willing to pay that amount, but someone else will.

I wouldn't part with mine for that amount .. plus a fair bit more.

Original Priced £29,695
Independent Dealer £3,360
Private Good  £2,395
Private Poor  £1,065
Part Exchange £1,360

So do I take it the car is worth on the ' Independent Dealer ' Price?

No idea, go look at Parkers guide or Glasses guide, will give you an idea.

The trade use both, they use the lowest as a guide when buying, and the other when selling, when you take a part ex in they allways use the lowest trade in with the mileage adjuster, if low miles they dont mention it.  If they are selling a high miler you wont get to see the book as they wont mention mileage allowance discount when selling, as most people generally know what band/type/engine size they want and then go looking for a car they like the look of.  Salesman watch buyers body language, thats why the big garages never come and bother you, they wait for you to come to them and wont drop in price, smaller garages come to speak to you as they are scarred of missing a sale.

At the most, plus or minus it's mileage allowance for lower / higher miles.

And Diane if you are interested in buying this car , at a reduced price, you need to enquire whether or not "full service history" includes a recent cam belt change.  At 77k on the clock it should have either just had one, or is now  due!  Factor in another £550+ if the dealer does not undertake the work. ;) ;)

Indeed. Also worth actually turning up rather than asking what they will take over the phone. They know full well that if they budge on the phone it just shifts down the starting point of the second round of negotiation which will happen after you're turned up and kicked tyres.

If you're serious, turn up, have a good look over the car and, as said, if it's about to need cam belts, etc. you can negotiate.

The prospect of you handing over cash and driving it away will loosen their purse strings much more effectively than a phone call.

I know that garage well, they do tend to overprice their cars and MAY respond to a bit of haggling, but in my opinion that's crazy money for that car.

With a price like they they need to be offered £3500 cash, just before or after a swift kick in the nutz, and even then I think thats being generous.
