when are they going to adjust road tax for motorbikes?

Just taxed the beemer for 12 months, cost me £66. So why, does a diesel Megan which is about 10 times heavier, takes up more room on the road, does more damage to the road and environment only £34 a year to tax?

Would you happen to know what the Co2 figure ......is for that old flat twin of yours Tunnie? .

What fuel consumption does it return? That will be pretty much proportional to it.

Sorry but road tax has nothing to do with roads and repairing them.

about 50mpg on average, so about the same as a derv Megan.

I thought it was all linked to CO2 figures.......the higher the figure ......the more the road tax costs. :-/

Granted but my point is that you will be charged whatever DVLA/HMG deems appropriate regardless of it being based on C02 / amount of tread on your tyres / colour of your vehicle or whatever they dream up next.

In short C02 is just a nice easy supposedly 'green' way of legitimising taxing you and then using the money elsewhere.

Don't know why a bike should be charged more than a car though when they are using the same variable element

Of course DVLA/HMG could argue that you go further per gallon of fuel and hence are not paying the same amount of fuel tax per mile as a less fuel efficient vehicle.

I've just been in contact with Suzuki about my 650 Bandit and if road tax was charged the same as it is for cars then I would have to pay £0 for the year,me thinks this is unfair as like tunnie I have to pay £66.

Interestingly my old Yam MT-03 was 660cc single, which is a completley different bike in terms of power & use, yet its the same to tax per year.

Beemer gets the same mpg though, not bad considering its got twice cc capacticy
