It ain't yours, you did not earn it, so no right to keep it.  I would hand it into the Police and if unclaimed would then use it to spread a bit of happiness  :y

I would not like to keep it and have to think who had lost it and what the person did when they realised etc.

Last year I was driving along a Welsh back road at 50mph and just spotted a green fabric wallet in the grass on the verge, so stopped and went back for it.  It was full of cash and had no ID except an out of date gym card.  I googled the gym, rang them, asked them to get the member to call me urgently.
The owner called and she was ecstatic-she was on holiday a few miles away and the wallet contained her two weeks money she had saved for; she had been distraught for 2 days.

I have had many things honestly returned to me; what goes around comes around  :y

I never have, so what goes around comes around in that sense too.

can't believe everyone who said they'd keep it :o

i'd hand it straight in to the cops, it's not mine, i didn't earn it - i don't want it and if i ever lost £500 i'd hope it was turned in - no wonder Britain's gone to the dogs - what do you lot teach your kids to do??? >:(
Differing opinions, just because I and some others would do different whats that got to do with what we teach our kids?

you're right, next time someone nicks your money just put it down to great parenting  :y

I've had more than £500 stolen before, that never got returned why the hell why I return someone elses?
Never did happen to me, and my kids have been bought up properly and perfectly fine. Hardly ever been in trouble and they respect us. If someone loses £500 they can't want it that much.

wouldn't you rather i'd found your money and handed it in? wouldn't the world be a better place? ::)

Tricky believing it sometimes when there are many selfish people about and times are hard, but whatever the loss or gain, at least you can look at yourself in the mirror or be at peace in the dark hours.

My Mother is a vicar, my Father a (now retired) Police Officer and they tried to drill this into me, but it never made sense when I was younger; until I did the wrong thing a few times and the gain was not worth the soul searching.  I guess I am selfish too, then  :-?

This is where scruples get interesting  :y

I regularly find pound coins and the occasional note, but my rule of thumb on this is based on how would I feel if I lost it and could it be returned?
I once sifted a great pile of sick at 5am on Sunday morning (with rubber glove!) to remove £17.30 in coins left by a drunken reveller and took a broke mate out for Sunday lunch  ;)

I suppose if I found a fiver and no-one was there to practically return it to, I would put it to a beneficial use  :y

Perhaps £20 would be my cut-off point to handing  it to Police  :-/

Say you just came out of the mot station having failed on front wheel bearings, wishbones, broken rear spring, sky high emissions and 2 tyres worn excessively on the inner edge when you find the money.
Then its a gift from god, thats KARMA. And obviously the cash has been removed from the un-deserving.
Handing it in would  possibly make you feel better but that would be an act of pure self-indulgence and therefore theoretically sinful.

You would need to be completely delusional to consider that god was communicating with you directly in any matter plus it would interfere with my devout atheism.

But do you believe in God?  Thiis could get interesting.  So let's politely leave God out of this as I asked the question what would YOU do if YOU found a fiver. rather than the original £500.

I have to say that a fiver is just a bonus... Their loss and my gain. I know I've dropped enough £5 notes in my time :'( :'(
