MODEMS

Any ideas what a GOOD modem is these days?
I am currently using BT Home Hub 2.
I have to re-boot the damn thing everyday, sometimes twice a day.
It is really pissing me off as I play a lot of online games and my rating would be a lot higher but I keep losing because the damn thing keeps freezing on me.
I am wireless on my desktop, so prehaps that is the problem.
I am to far away from my telephone socket to put in the Yellow cable which I would prefer.
Any ideas folks.

Netgear ADSL routers are quite good, we have 2 broadband lines in our house, one of them is BT running off a Belkin router, we only reboot that about once a year, my xbox used to go through that, never had any issues.

Now got another 8mb line in my room from Sky, using their own router, again no problems....

Yup, would be 20mb if the line allowed, it goes well with my unlimited free UK calls, and complete Sky TV package (HD & Multiroom)  ::)  ;D

I am after another modem/router, I reckon it will be something like a netgear 834.

Currently have one thats branded ADDON, tis ok, just a bit of bugger on reset, have to log in and occasionally do that twice then reboot my computer.  Cant complain really though, has been in use a while and I think is an ADSL2+ version.

Benifits are quite nice, i added it all up on retail site and it comes to about £100 a month what i have, so its a nice freebie  :)

They have offers on new kit, the new 1TB box has been released, we get it cheap, but not cheap enough for me yet.

Add to that the healthcare, excellent holiday, sick pay, and training scheme. This could be a job for life!

I could certainly befir with a 1TB box.

But considering the price of the HD I cant understand why companies like Sky and Panasonic hype prices up like the do.

Panasonic DVD recorder jumps quite a lot just by going from 160 the 250GB, but yet you could buy 2 x 1TB drives for the price hype, no doubt Sky are not much different.  Mind you as soon as the warranty is up the drive is being upgraded to 2TB.

How long is your contract for Tunnie, and do you get the option to go with Sky direct for the same money?

I am on full time now at Sky, not contracting.

I did take SkyHD out when we got the new Sony Bravia downstairs, when i went perm in December, my account was transfered to staff, and had all its channels unlocked.

Not actually sure what would happen if i left, as i was only 6 months into the contract when it was transfered to staff

I have just set mine to series record all the stuff I like, plus I look for decentish films that are on during the early hours and then if I dont like the look of them in the first 5 mins they get deleted.

Have a load of.

Twist the Throttle
Extreme Enginieering.
How Do They Make That.
American Chopper.
Chop Shop.
Martial Law
to catch up on.

Plus Police/chase stuff and the Grime /councel stuff.

Plus a dozen or so films that are archieved that I want to output to DVD.

I keep about 30% free for a weeks recording.

Had to delete a load of stuff, but with the repeats we get it's not hard to catch up.

annoyingly Sky Anytime takes up to 40% of HD space, and even when disabled, still reserved and un-usable for the planner  >:(

Cant you prefix the size for it, surely just a software override.

How much space would it need, seems daft to allocate 400/800GB of 1/2TB that will never get used.
