PC hardware problems
« on: 02 March 2010, 12:01:39 »

Desktop is an Acer L3600 running Vista Premium. RW drive has packed up, won`t read or write discs. (Drive "E" on PC). Using a USB Optiarc DVDRW AD-7700S (Designated Drive "G"). This drive will read any disc but I can`t copy to it. Tried going into drive E on PC clicking "recording" tab but it won`t let me set the Optiarc as the default record drive. Any ideas please :-/

sometimes USB devices causes unexpected problems.. simplify your hardware scenario and try them one by one.. and if possible, try that packed up cd rom on another pc..

Start > Control Panel > Computer Management > Disk Management

Right click on the offending buggered drive, and click 'Change drive letter and paths'

Remove the letter assigned, it will still be 'seen' by the computer, just not shown in 'My Computer' allocate new drive to old letter and see how you get on  :y

I'm no computer buff Rob, but have you tried a lens cleaning disc in the old re-writer.
