Jetboil
« on: 01 March 2010, 20:39:29 »

Slowly building up some compact camping gear for the bike, been thinking about getting a Jetboil for a while, anyone got one?

For those that don't know, little video here:

Boils water in 1.5 mins, uses smaller gas casister, packs away really small. Can use it for cupa soups / tins of spag / mini sausages when camping :)

They work.  Best use the stabiliser though.  They do get top heavy, particularly when the mug doodah is full and you are on grass or soft ground.

And, do not use one in a tent.....   :-X

Not like i have used a gas cooker with two rings, been boiling water and using a portable BBQ, grilling some burgers, while sinking some beers inside a tent before  ::)

Point I was making is that they are easily toppled, splashing hot liquid and burning flame onto barely flameproofed tent fabric but agreed, less of an issue on a double burner with a large footprint.   ;)

A lot of my collegues have one, they are pretty useful esp if space is an issue.  Just beware that the canisters are difficult or impossible to get abroad so check before taking it on your hols minus canister thinking you can get one when you get there....

Yeah thought gas bottles would be an issue, how long do they last it does not have to heat much, or be on for long  :-/

you do get at least twenty uses out of one canister but as previously stated not as easy to get 'abroad' in comparrison to here.I've had mine for about five years now and do use the stabiliser on soft ground quite a bit.

Europe not an issue yet, but 20 uses sounds good.  8-)

What you need is a Kelly Kettle, so long as you can find some wood chips, pine cones or other dry stuff of a small size you can boil water. Less than 7 mins to boil. No gas bottles!

Interesting, if i was camping with a car that would be an option. Its a tad big to carry on the bike though  :(
