Printer Heads (Cleaning)
« on: 07 March 2010, 21:28:45 »

I have dug out a couple of printers.

Epson R300 (5 or 6 ink cartriges)

Epson D80 (3 colours and Black)

Only ever fitted the original cartridges in and both printers arnt printing so assuming the ink/nozzles have dried.

Any idea's on getting them working, not wanting to put a full set of inks in each just to find the old ones might have worked with a bit of persuation.

TIA.   :y

put em in the bin and get new printers, its cheaper to buy a new printer than get replacement ink!  ;D

IIRC the Epson R300 prints discs does it not?
Maybe the R320.

A long time ago before the days of 2tb hard drives I used to keep all my movies on disc, and I am almost sure that the R300  would allow you to print straight onto discs.

Spot on Di.

Yes I bought the R300 to create some personal disks and was very impressed with it.  Plus I went dor that because it has the LCD display the the R200 doesnt.

Then it got shelved for a while as I mainly use laserjets.  Then came a time I needed colour and the R300 had dried up, and yes I have a full set of original spare inks, but dont want to waste them if it doesnt work.

So I bought the D80 or 86 whatever it is.

Now I want to do some colour printing but dont fancy buying another printer, but if I have to it will have to be another CD capable printer.

Must admit, I bought a Xerox ages ago and is still going strong, to replace the toner cartridge is the same cost as the printer, so when it runs out it gets binned.  :-/ :-/

But I still have 3 HP's and a Brother to fall back on.   ::)

Try dabbing the heads of the ink catridges onto wet kitchen towel, it encourages the ink to flow, due to capillary action  :y ;)

I have an R300. Nice printer. Does a pretty respectable job on photos, TBH.

I would be inclined to soak the cleaning pad on the right hand side of the platen in isopropyl alcohol or similar and run a couple of nozzle cleaning cycles. See where that gets you.

I have been using mine with a CIS system and ebay inks for a couple of years and it's been fine if in regular use. Leave it for a couple of weeks without use and you're back to square one though.

i done mine by taking out the carts & putting a cloth soaked in glass cleaner over the nozzels overnight, then replaced carts & ran through a few cleaning cycles & that sorted it. :y
