If only we could have some decent programmes in 2D we wouldn't need such gimmicks. ;)

Sky will be broadcasting sports in 3D later this year, been to a screening of it, quite impressive. For me, it totally transformed Tennis, the new angle to watch it at showed much more, and you can really appreciate the players movements. Its aimed for the football games, although it was good for that, did not have the impact of tennis for me.

Problem is, its going to totally change filming techniques, currently say, 100m sprint race, cameras are to the front and to the side, for 3D they will need to be at an angle, its going to be a long time i feel before its standard.

Still hurts your eyes too for any long periods

Problem is, by definition it needs 100% of your attention to work at all. So, come up with some programmes that will merit 100% of my attention and I might be interested.

And no, tennis and football won't cut the mustard.

For now I'm, happy with my 2D distraction in the corner that gets about 20%. :y

Agreed, its not something you can just have on, you to just sit down and watch it, and nothing else. At home i usually have TV on and PC as well, OOF, with a movie on as well.

This could be interesting - Tunnie said yesterday that Sony would be making the next round of Sky HD boxes.

He also said the other week that he had seen his 1st 3D oreview (I bekive it was a foot ball natch)

Whats the point of (probably very exspensive) 3D TV when the are no programs to watch on it.  3D TV will only get popular when sets become cheaper, but if Sky charge for 3D like they charge for 3D then will it be a slow take off because TV's will still be exspensive.  Eventhough Tunnie saysitwill be free I hold my breath on that.

Plus on the 3D side, will we have to sit and wear specs (3D)if thats the case the next rip off will be opticiacains doing 3D specs that all the kids willwant and parents will be shelling out yet again. :-/

Sky is hoping sports fans will like it, i am not a footie fan. It did give an edge to the game, corner kicks were good, could see what was going on much more clearly, but was a bit of a novelty.  :-/

Its going to be free (from what i hear) to current HD customers, for how long i don't know.

3D specs are like ones for Avatar, its not based on colours, but rather rotation.

So instead of these:

Its these

But, i only watched half the game, even 20 mins in my eyes were hurting. TV's from Sony, don't need glasses, which will help a lot

Quite some time ago TV became "mature".  That's when it doesn't need to be nursed by engineers to keep it working.  That was inevitable.  Trouble is, it then gets taken over by marketting people who want to milk it for all it's worth (and more) by creating new features and trying to persuade the public that they want them.

I don't know how many of you have noticed the tricks that get used to enable the same footage to be shown more than once in a programme?  It used to be a serious crime to re-use footage!  We even have it looped on the news.

Sadly there are a lot of gullible types out there who think that having the latest technology is worthy of respect.  In the mean time the stuff that is actually useful gets sidelined.  So we may never get good quality HD pictures for instance, because too many people will be stealing the bandwidth for 3D and other gimmicks. :(

Laser eye surgery with 3D built in...no need for glasses ;DPersonally I'm looking forward to the day we can speak to someone face to face, but online and wearing a 3D surround helmet and actually punch them in the face without actually getting arrested for it. Ah the fun you could have just randomly calling someone ;D I think I watch too much telly now.... :o

You probably would get arrested for it! People have been prosecuted for 'virtual crime'! I heard about someone who 'stole' some virtual money in one of those online world things and got done...
