Stirling Moss injured
« on: 08 March 2010, 19:19:44 »

Apparently he fell down a three story lift shaft and broke both ankles. At 80 years old he is probably looking at a long recovery period. Very sad to hear this, a genuine old fashioned gent, with a huge natural driving talent in his day. :(

Chap is a gent and a genuine ambassador to motor racing - as it used to be and perhaps should be still - and I read this with sadness.

Bit like Hill senior in many ways, from the same mould....

Heres hoping he regains full health soon..

poor guy, hope he recovers soon. Its amazing how this sort of random stuff happens to people who really dont deserve it.

I would be investing in a new elevator personally.. or perhaps getting rid of it all together..  >:(

:o Three storeys!.....that`d be enough to finish off someone a fraction of his age. :'(

He`s a true gentleman; a link to the dashing-do days of motorsport; when 'seat of the pants' was the only way! :y

Stirling stuff Mr Moss is.....

This is (was) a real brave racing driver... no protection around the cockpit, no seat belt, steering wheel the size of the road wheels the car sat on, dressed in what is now working overalls, and gloves and a leather crash helmet (!), and getting those big old Mercs sidewards around those bends... excellent.

Natsy thing for anyone to happen, hope it hasn't dented his spirit though ?....

I bet thats the fasted 0-60 he's done for a while, sorry I couldn't resist that. :-[ Seriously though I wish him a speedy recovery he was lucky his injurys were not worse at his age they could have been fatal. Someone at the lift company is going to end up with his arse in the mincer.

He's a big fan of scooters too. This photo was taken in June '00. I was contacted by Mark Ashmore (standing) who, as a university project, had developed the "Horni-t" racing scooter and arranged for him to meet with the man himself.

To be honest, I am really impressed he survived the fall, as that is not a good fall to have at all, at any age never mind as an 80 year old !

He loves his driving and and a clever wit :y

Stirling Moss quotes-
“It is necessary to relax your muscles when you can. Relaxing your brain is fatal.”

“I believe that if a man wanted to walk on water, and was prepared to give up everything in life, he could do it.”

“To achieve anything in this game, you must be prepared to dabbled on the boundary of disaster.”

“There are two things no man will admit he cannot do well: drive and make love.”

“I was taught that everything is attainable if you are prepared to give up, to sacrifice, to get it. Whatever you want to do, you can do it, if you want it badly enough, and I do believe that. I believe that if I wanted to run a mile is four minutes I could do it. I would have to give up everything else in my life, but I could run a mile in four minutes. I believe that if a man wanted to walk on water and was prepared to give up everything else in life, he could do that.”

"Motion is tranquility." and: “Movement is tranquility.”

“"If God had meant for us to walk, why did he give us feet that fit car pedals?"”

He's a big fan of scooters too.

I nearly got flattened by him on a scooter in the pits at Silverstone at a historic event once. ::)

Fair play to him, though. He's made from better stuff then most of us I suspect.

I wish him a speedy recovery. :y

It nearly happened to me once - at university.

Had had a good skinful at the bar earlier, called the lift and the doors opened. Stepped out with one foot. Noticed lack of floor, luckily. Lift was at the 13th floor. I was at the 12th :o break me did I sober up quickly. :o
