Darth Loo-Knee strikes a positive blow again
« on: 14 March 2010, 14:38:13 »

Well took a gentle trip over to Loo-Knee’s yesterday, as so may people have said what a top bloke he is with his mechanic knowledge, as I’d asked him if would do a Transmission filter and a ATF fluid change on my gearbox ?.
And despite him not being keen on doing the job as it’s a very messy one to do – but there again, who’d want to get rained on with ATF fluid anyhow !.  He certainly was a top bloke for helping me out.  :y

Armed with the kettle on for a brew first, and a chat.  He then set to work on my transmission.  And I could tell that he’s very passionate about doing the job right, and his approach to the work.

First was the important work, to see if the front sump had the dreaded ‘broken thrust washer’ sitting in pieces in the bottom of it – Good news, no broken washer, so  was relieved that the gearbox wasn’t going to die a death just yet !!.  :)

Though it was a good job I got Loo-Knee to take a look, as he suspected that it was low on fluid, as there wasn’t as much coming of the sump as there should have been, so that probably accounted for the problems I’ve been having with the transmission changes ?.  :o

I could tell he was particular with the way he does the job, as he took care to make sure all the old gaskets were off, all flange surfaces were cleaned, and then gasket sealer & gaskets were set right, and didn’t rush the job.

A quick drive to make sure all was working well – Certainly was, made a world of difference having the correct level now.  Got back, he had a quick check again to make sure the level was right before I went on my way, and all well the job was done.  :y

However, the good doctor Loo-knee did spot an oil leak whilst doing the Transmission, and then wanted to find out what it was - diagnosed quickly that that it was bad news, and it was the camshaft cover gasket seal had gone – damn it I thought, wish I’d spotted it earlier.
Unfortunately it’s another job that I’ve got to get done ASAP, only it would happen now wouldn’t it, as off on holiday to the coast for x2 weeks, so hoping that I can get away with it for now ?!.  On the way back home I got a gasket from the local autoshop - and I know what you’re all going to say, it needs a genuine one on it to work properly, yes I know it does, but got this in case I start to have problems with misfiring (Loo-Knee advised if it gets too bad I’ll knack up the plug unit), and so if I need to get a quick fix job done on have to do it whilst on my holidays (hope not !), and when I get back home, then replace it with a genuine one.  Comes to something though, that I’m having to take car spares with me on holiday ?!.   :-/ :-?

I can honestly say that from now on, if when I need someone to take on a job I can’t do, I would be prepared to travel the 40 miles out of my way to Loo-Knee’s to have the job done, he has that attitude of pride in doing the job right, and knowing he has happy Omega owner at the end of the day.

Loo-Knee, I really appreciate you doing the job in the first place, and for your advice on the oil leak.  It was nice to meet the chap all have been praising about.   :y

And your tea making isn’t that bad chap.  ;D

Anyone else who needs help, I’d certainly have a chat to Loo-Knee.  :y
