I understand they are good, but is this model decent? Worth a go? Need good drill for LPG work....

that kit has been at around £100 for a few years in B&Q / Screwfix.

Beleive it is good value, and should be more than adequate for what you want.

Not quite up there with there proper professional kit....but then again you are not using it all day every day  :y

was gonna buy one myself a year or 2 ago, but got given a similar spec kit that had been one in a trade raffle  :y

Exactly, need something for drilling holes for LPG mount, Vaporizer, and few other jobs like cutting the bumper.

Did read big thread on drills but unsure of that model, think i'll pick one up today :)

I rate them very highly.

THE most important part of any cordless drill is the charger.....and the Makita charger is a fully intelligent unit as used on pretty much their entire drill range.

The price is very good and you would need to spend more than double that to get a better unit.

You wont get much better than makita.I used to use a 4 inch linisher day in and day out when i was mig welding, and they dont give up easy, and as a matter of fact i still have one in the shed, which accidently followed me out of the factory, and hopped in my car when i left, hows about that for an intelligent bit of kit. ;D ;D

Funnily enough, that's how I've got my DeWalt 4" grinder.  ::) It even brought its own 240/110v transformer.  ::)  ::) ;)

I'll probably get a slating for this but here goes anyway.....I work at Screwfix......there got it off my chest  ;D,the Makita drill you are looking at is very good for the non-professional and at the moment it is a very good price. We don't get to see many come back which is a good sign for reliability plus as it is a reputable brand you know you will be able to get spares for it in the future. When looking for a good cordless drill it is not the voltage of the battery to look for but the Amp Hours (Ah).The bigger the better. As someone has allready said there are now drills that come with li-ion batteries and they are higher power than this but they do come at a price.I hope that helps  :y

The first step is admitting you have a problem  ;D

I received the Bosch LI-ION Screwdriver (GSR 10.8 V-LI) a couple of years ago for Christmas - It is a great bit of kit
 - Light weight
 - Compact
 - Fantastic battery charge retention *

* - power tool manufactures are phasing out Ni-Cd (already very obsolete by IT standards) for Ni-MH which are being pushed as mainstream - Li-ION has now been introduced as the next generation for the industry ( although standard in laptop's for at least 5 years)

However, if you are buying the drill/driver for this one small job - buy cheap & cheerful- ~£30 - £40 max - use and dump when it dies
