Question for the computer boffins
« on: 26 March 2010, 16:10:05 »

My current desktop has Pentium D 3 Ghz processor, 1GB RAM and is running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Now, I have the 80Gb HDD out of my old machine currently in a USB caddy with all my music on. I would rather install this in current machine but it is IDE and current machine is SATA with no IDE ports.

Can I buy a PCI card to enable me to install this and if so what do I need to look for? I found this one but not sure it is compatible?

No link posted, but a suitable PCI IDE card should do the job, most motherboards have 1x IDE so depending on your CD/DVD you could add it om that cable.   :y

Or one of these:

No additional cards required, as long as you have a spare SATA port.....

I've got an IDE drive running on a SATA port in my PC using something very similar

If space is a bit tight in your PC case one of this type might be better:

There are various types on eBay, there should be something to suit, or go with the plug-in card, it's all good  :y
