Am I imagining this?
« on: 30 March 2010, 23:18:37 »

Last week, as some of you may have read, I had a major PC problem which entailed me having to replace my mobo. I decided to use the on-board graphics and took the old (separate) video card out.

I use the PC for work (and surfing!) so I spend many hours in front of the monitor. Over the last several days, I've been experiencing a fair few headaches on the forehead and my eyes have been very tired...to the extent I've tried a different pair of reading glasses.

Tonight, I realised that the two events may have been connected. On checking the monitor performance I found it had reverted to 60hz, whereas I'm pretty sure that it had been 75hz before. Anyway, I changed it and already it feels better.

Could a change in hertz cause headaches or am I just imagining things?

All TFT/LCD screens expect to run at 60Hz natively, although some of the cheaper ones don't do so well at hiding the flicker.

If it's a CRT you are using, 60Hz can be quite painful for some.

I'm using a TFT and 75hz is available. It certainly feels kinder to my eyes than 60hz but, like I said, I may be imagining it.  ;)

I had a lot of headaches recently after long spells on the computer. Discovered that my 1.25 strenght glasses were no longer any use. Now need 3.25. :(

I would have thought that most TFTs would be slow enough for refresh rate not to be an issue. 60Hz is certainly dire on a CRT though.
