Car scrappage
« on: 05 April 2010, 17:16:52 »

The result of the car scrappage scheme.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1263548/Now-did-say-left-car-The-28m-backlog-perfectly-driveable-vehicles-waiting-SCRAPPED.html

Now, can someone tell me how scrapping this lot is, in any way, shape or form, an environmentally sensible move?  ::) ::)

Didn't think it was touted as environmentally friendly. Thought it was to stop the car industry going broke. The European and Japanese car industries that is.

Total and utter waste when there are so many unroadworthy rust buckets still on the roads.

Export them to other countries , or at least export the better ones.

Plus how much has been wasted on getting them there and then the same again to get them some where else to scrap them.   :-/

the two main sad points are:

1) the previous owners were too bloody stupid, to think the scrappage scheme was good offer. You can easily get £2k off list price without any part ex!

2) Goverment should sell them, some of the examples in that shot could easily sell for more than £2k!

They cant really break the rules of why it was done in the 1st place.

I bet some smart sods out there have done the deal only to see if thier car goes back on the road and then sue the goverment for breach of contract.

;D it really is stupid, I'm not sure who it actually helped. The supply of older cars has simply dried up, auction prices have gone crazy. All it's helped is the government get VAT on all the new cars purchased, and foreign car firms.
There's even a Mercedes ML in the photo, bottom right in maroon. That's worth more than £2k any day of the week.
