Insurance
« on: 08 April 2010, 12:00:41 »

Hi,

I'm trying to get insurance cover for a 3.2 manual but no-one seems to recognise this model? All say its an auto and MV6/Elite trim. So who do people use?

P.S. Phoned DVLA as well, they have the car listed as a special so why don't the insurance companies >:(

Cheers,
Iain

maybe its been registered wrongly when new? shouldn't be a problem for them to "manually" input the details, should be very slightly cheaper to insure if its not auto  :y

Hi,

Some hassle this is causing. Thats 3 companies that won't insure due to wrong details there end, and they won't change the database unless they get more than one complaint about it. Have asked to get changed to manual but they won't do it due to wrong trim levels available for manuals

They should have them listed as 'Specials' being ex-cop.

Most ins companies don't list 'specials'. It was supposed to be for the police etc., not for public use.

You should have seen the trouble I had with my astra. It was produced in late 2006, but first registered in early 2007. In that time Vauxhall had changed the engine from 104ps to 115ps. Trying to get the idiots to see that mine was the earlier engine was nigh on impossible, so I gave up.

Its wrong on ALL insurance databases, aviva are going to see if they can change it there end and will phone me back this afternoon. Otherwise im stuck :-/. Its like talking to a brick wall with some of these people, even the woman at the DVLA called them a bunch of muppets!!

Think only other option i've got is modified route or specialist insurers. Adrian flux wanted over £2k to insure as it was 'extensively' modified, just cause it wasn't on the system as a manual, bunch of t@@ts

There must be people on here who own them! I would start a thread and see who jumps in. Probably have to wait till it's a bit busier though.

What about the MIB (Motor Insurance Bureau)?  They play with databases of cars all day and might even be responsible.

Well, so far only found one place that will accept the car, and thats Admiral but is more than I was looking to pay, they let you 'build' your car spec online so you can put in the exact model and trim for your car along with the reg. Total and utter pain in the a@se. Even had RAC phone me up an hour after telling me they wouldn't insure me to ask if I wanted insurance, think that guy will regret phoning me!!
