Wouldn't expect any less from a Tory newspaper  ;)

After 1000 years of steady immigration people are still thinking that immigration has become a new issue over the last few years - Britain has always had the same level of immigration today it has always had, read your history, it ebbs and flows but has maintained a steady rate over many many years, nothing new there, many even go back, some settle and contribute to this country, there has always been those coming through the back door,  - the whole thing about immigration has been blown out of proportion by political scaremongers, going back many hundreds of years let's face we are all immigrants from less enlightened areas, that is what makes us great  8-)

Yes, go back far enough we are all immigrants from somewhere. That said our population is getting to big for the land mass of the UK to support. Do you wait until the last blade of grass is lost, or do you put a halt to population growth.

Take the channel islands, they have strict entry laws and do not suffer a tenth of the problems the UK as whole suffers.

manta - fly over Britain and look out the window - we're a long way from full, endless fields of green - and up in Scotland we need more people to work the land.

still, not like the Daily Mail to scaremonger  :o

if we're still seen as a bastion of decency and fairness in the world and if, as a consequence people want to live here then good!
would you rather live in a country no one in their right mind would want to go to?

I could not agree more, We have vast swathes of farm land. But at what point do you stop ? Is it today, tomorrow, or in 1000 years time.
Surely for the believers of climate change you must realise there is a limit to the amount of humans one island can support. And I don't just mean food.

Endless fields of green which should bloody well stay there. No more houses for people who don't pay their way to get put into nice new houses. This goes for everyone of every colour/race nationality or whatever in this country. If you don't pay your way then bugger off somewhere else. There are people who struggle to get a job and get nothing, then foreigners get to come over here and get a house for pretty much nothing, this country is a disgrace.

population growth is going to be a huge global problem...simply planning on feeding everyone in the not too distant future should be a priority, but it will severely affect the third world, not us, so we won't give a toss, as usual.  :(
