Joining the police force.
« on: 06 April 2010, 13:12:51 »

Really thinking about this, and been looking into it on the net,but the only downside is my financial background,as i have a ccj,and found out that they will reject my application because of it.Anyone know much about the subject. :-/

They'll turn you down flat until your credit file has a certificate of satisfaction attached to the CCJ. I know for a fact West Mids aren't recruiting ATM, not even for the free Specials!

Has the CCJ been satisfied, if it has then you should be OK.

My youngest daughter joined a few years back and she's loving it. I was suprised the amount of checks they do, they even checked on me ::)
I would wait till the CCJ is all sorted and have a go at joining :y

Hi Mark,

I may be completly wrong, but from memory, yuu can be considered for appointment, provided 6 years of more has elapsed after the discharge of CCJ.

Contact the force you want to apply for, and ask  their recruitment dept.  :y

I think thats the same with all of us Pete, and one of the reasons isurance pemiums go down.  Cant remember the last time I had points on my licence.  In june this year it will be 25 years since I got done for speeding , only reason i remember is coz it's a mates 25th wedding anniversary.  and the coppers were kind to me, they only did me doing 95/100 mph but those days are past at travelling at the sort of speeds they would have liked to have caught me at had I have not slowed down in case thier was a car ahead and made it worse for myself.

I thought you said you were not paying it ?? so it has NOT been "discharged" .. it is still "outstanding" ??

AFAIK CCJ's don't just "expire" over time, the details are removed 6 years AFTER registration ... which is slightly different .. :(

If the holder of the CCJ re-registers it before the 6 years is up, in theory it can keep rolling along forever .. :(

Agreed

As a slight aside - one of the competencies for the role is "personal responsibility" - so not dealing with a debt, and sweeping it under the rug so to speak, would not be too compatible with this.

Another reason they look at issues such as debt, is to ensure officers aren't likely to be suspeptible to things such as taking bribes.

Not saying for one min you would - it's all just standard criteria.

The only firm answer can be obtained from recruitment - so I'd ask them and find out.

good luck  :y
