We need not ponder on Cleggs musings. With the current electoral system it would take something of a landslide miracle for Lib Dems to get enough seats to make any impact.

However, the devil on my other shoulder, reminds me that such a turnaround has happened before! When Labour, as the then 3rd party underdog,  took a couple of hundred Liberal seats.

Lib Dems hold the keys to power tho holy count - as we head to what looks like a hung parliament its who they get into bed with that determines the direction the country is taking - personally I'd be comfortable with a Lib/Lab pact - thats why the right wing press have suddenly started these desperate attacks on clegg as their man, DC, looks like losing - in addition if the LibDems get the voter reform they seek it could lock out the tories for decades  :o

This is true Banjax. However although the winning party (if there is one) will, in all likely hood, require the backing of the Lib Dems, this does not mean the wholesale adopting of Lib Dem policies. More the watering down of the other parties policies to make them acceptable to the "King Makers".

In all honesty it's about time the parties (of whatever colour) started thinking about what's best for the country and not what their particular doctrine is.

I know (fear) we'll never get it, but what's needed is a genuine coalition of the best from all parties to steer us out of the mire! Too often an opposition suggestion has been ridiculed purely because it was on the wrong colour paper, totally ignoring the merit of the idea!!

In this particular constituency we have a two horse race:  LibDems vs. Conservative. Our incumbent (as was) MP is LibDem ----HE, as an individual, has done a sterling job for the constituency, whereas his "opponent" is a regular PITA (in my opinion, granted).  I will not be voting for colours, but for people!
