With all BP's record-breaking profits.............
« on: 30 April 2010, 17:21:35 »

why can't they fit a failsafe shutoff? because in all honesty, a couple of guys fannying around with robot subs while oil spews out at 300000 gallons a day just doesn't cut it when you're one of the largest and most profitable companies on Earth I'm afraid - unluckily they're wrecking tourism and fishing in much of the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts and god help BP if it screws up Florida - I know you yanks don't like to resort to using lawyers-it's just not in your nature(!)...but in this case - I'd sue  ::)

fit a valve that shuts the minute any one of a number of scenarios happens (blowout valves faling and taking the rig with it would be one of them perhaps? - it's really not rocket science you greedy flockers)

those kinds of accidents are always possible in oil production where you work with high flow fluid pressures .. :-/

even for a minimal decrease of explode or burst possibility you need to increase the safety factor costing you megabucks..

BP is one of the high tech oil companies and have large database for those events and behave accordingly..  but can happen.. :-/

have some operations with them in oil field and having seen their technology , I cant blame them easily..

I have no doubt that BP are one of the best, most advanced and safest oil companies on the planet cem - hopefully this latest disaster because of the impact and location will cost them so much it'll bring in better measures to try prevent similar incidents - although nothing can be 100% safe, you can still do all you can prevent it.

when the failsafe "fails" to work (in this case the shear rams designed to cut off the pipes as a last resort failed to do the job) its time to spend more money  :o

I work for a Lloyds of London broker in the Oil & Gas insurance sector. There are some worried insurers now. BP is one of our clients and as far as I know in the 13 years I've been there this will be one of the biggest claims ever. The current biggest I know so far is $29m in clean up costs alone after a similar blowout in Bangladesh.
