Cardiff Newbie - 00 Omega 2.5i V6 CD [LT]
« on: 10 May 2010, 16:42:31 »

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice please in relation to the purchase of a 2000 W plate Omega 2.5i V6 CD Estate [LT].

This car is in immaculate condition, has had one previous owner, has no scratches, dents, chips or bumps, as new interior and only 42000 miles on the clock with full service history.

It is priced at £2200 at a local dealer and he took the car as a part exchange car.

Is this car as good a bargain as I think it is and should I be snapping his arm off to buy it? I have previously owned Carlton Estates and currently drive a Vectra, but have always wanted an Omega, ever since driving my bosses company car (3.0 V6 Elite, how lovely it was). I need a bigger car and have looked at other estate cars, but you do seem to get more value for your money with these Omega's.

What should I be wary of, what should I look out for when I go for a drive, how much should I be thinking of paying for the car and is this too good a bargain?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated, as I know this is the right place to be asking all these questions.

One last thing, what does the [LT] stand for?

Regards,

Rob

generally 10 year old omega's change hands for typically half that amount but it is low milage with full history so that helps its case, have you tried offering less for it?

Hi Rob

I'd imagine it'll need a cambelt change at those miles... otherwise, give it a good look over and see how she performs on test drive! :)

I posted in your newbie thread, but will post here aswell to make it neater and easier to understand.

I'll make some other points, as more people will read this section;

LT means Leather Trim

Cambelt - This must be changed every 40,000 miles ro 4 years without fail. If not, it needs to be done asap if there is no history with the vehicle.

Take a quick look at this guide I created, it only covers the later engines but explains the spec levels a bit better

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1266867411

Price - I'm a motor trader, and even I think it's a bit expensive. Granted it's got 42,000 miles. But it's only 'CD' spec and 10 years old. For that sort of price, I'd be looking for either CDX or Elite spec and newer.

I think £1700 to £1800 represents a better price, but still a little expensive due to age.

Low mileage (if genuine) is always attractive, but thats pricey for a 10yr old Omega in my opinion.

But you have seen it, if you think its worth that to you, then go for it :y
