What polish
« on: 22 May 2010, 09:14:25 »

Hi all,
Appologies if this is covered elsewhere (could not find)

I have never bothered too much about what polish I used in the past on other cars, but looking at the pics some of you have posted, your cars shine  (as they say down here) like a 'shilling up a sweeps arse'  ;D

How do you get them so shiny!!!!! There does not seem to be any scratches on some of them (I know camera's can lie) but I am astounded how they gleam.
Please point me in the right direction, as I have seen some things that elimate scratches that cost £40 or so and I do not want to waste money.
My colour is metallic Nocturne Blue, and an Elite estate so a lot of bodywork to cover  ::)
One other point on same vein, I notice that dust on my Omega seems to cling like static ??? but I do not get the same on my Laguna...any ideas ??? :(

I use a polish machine..

after washing I dry and bandage all plastic parts
then use farecla G3 with a heavy duty head..

then use "formula 1 scratch out" to clean whats left from the first step with a finer soft head..

last step blue colored sonax paint protector.. :y

ps: must note that some members use clay bar..

pps: my miggy in the picture is completely painted ..

I did the sanding which took approx 2 weeks..

and whenever I do polishing ceiling alone only takes 4-5 hours..

T-Cut for the light scratches then i use meguiras steps 1,2,3 they are 3 for the price of 2 at Halfords at present then finish off with autoglym super resin polish
for the black bits i use autoglym bumper care
a lot of work first time but the transformation is worth it

I've found that the omega paint is second to none as the car was made in Germany  :)

I use turtle wax 'zipwax'  wash & wax. Why? Cos it was on special offer  from Halfords ::)

For fine scratches i use Mer paste which works well  :y

Finally i use Meguiars 'Gold Class' clear coat liquid car wax & @ £13.99 for 473mls from my local car shop, its rather brilliant & lasts a long long time as does the shine  :y

Being silly for a moment.......
why would someone put CLAY on their car???

does it help the paint by filling in the cracks???

(somebody put me out of my misery.....)

It lifts the crap off the paintwork, works very well.

I cant rate MEGUIAR'S 'NXT' GENERATION highly enough, its a synthetic polymer wax so lasts much longer, is easier to apply and not excessively expensive.

Note also that Autoglym super resin has very little wax in it so adding the above after gives much better and longer protection
