  Watching this. I've seen it done before at various shows by those who want to retain thier classic dashboards & positive earth.
  What i need advice on is the i pod itself. I'll only use it in the Rover, (Sold Consul) as i don't like sticking things in my ears!, which is a good or bad one to buy & how do i download music onto it?
   I know this is remedial ABC123 to most of you but i'm a luddite so would appreciate the advice please. Guy. :-[

Portable music players - loads out there - the worst of the expensive ones for sound quality are reckoned to be made by Apple

at that price don't expect miracles, but that should fit right in your classic and not stand out.  :y

Only the headphones, try any iPod in a B&W Zeppelin dock, with decent bit rate  ;)

I may be wrong, but I think others have not understood what your question was. (Or maybe I have misunderstood  :-[). You're asking about iPods/MP3 players rather than the car connection?

My daughter has an iPod Nano, which is a pretty good bit of kit. It's dead easy to download files from iTunes, HMV or similar. Just connect your iPod to a USB port, go on the web and and off you go. Normally around 99p for the latest singles or album tracks, but earlier stuff is much cheaper. You can also transfer any music CDs you have to the iPod just by sticking the CD into the PC and following the iTunes instructions (iTunes is free software from Apple).

I guess you could go for a cheaper MP3 player as Apple branded equipment is expensive. I can't comment on them as I haven't tried any.

With regards to MP3 players, I have a 20GB Ipod, I have also had a normal MP3 player.

In contrast the Control software of the IPod is far superior and quicker than the cheaper MP3 player and does give a good sound quality (so long as a decent bit rate is used).

As regards to the connection to the car, I personally would be inclined to have a concealed amplifier, with a switched connection to the cars speaker system, then all that would be needed is a jump lead to link the IPod (located in a convienient safe place) and the Ipod.

 I might have a punt on this. It'd look right in the dash (1970 Rover 2000 TC) & work as a radio. I've just bought an apple ipod nano from Lodger Steves girlfriend for a tenner so i just need the appropriate lead from Maplins, then downlaod a few cd's/tracks etc. Any tips on this would help. Guy. 8-)

I've taken it out of the box, looked at it, nearly dropped it so put it back in the box!!!
