We're still using a first-generation single-car DMU on Cardiff Queen St - Cardiff Bay shuttles.
It's a Class 121 'Bubble Car':'(

The only survivor, or are there others Byron? :-/ :-/

I used to see them operate out of Bristol Temple Meads in the 1980s ;) ;)

Chiltern Trains have one, used to see it on my old commute, does the shuttle between Princes Risbough to Aylesbury. Its been upgraded, had central locking and it looks like they pinched a couple of displays from the Class 165's when they got re-furbished.

The simple answer is Lizzie "I'm not sure".
However, Tunnie's ditty certainly rings a bell, as I'm sure that our bubble-car came from the Chiltern area - and it also has central locking.
A right PITA to operate though - I like the single-car Class 153s on Bay shuttles, which were themselves originally Class 155 or 156 Sprinters.
153s are the backbone of the Heart of Wales line these days, and are, as Pop Larkin says "Perfick".
Cramped cab at one end though.

This has reminded me of what I was told by an old railway engine driver on the Mid Hants.  He told a number of us when discussing third rail electrification, that back in steam days he knew a member of footplate crew who peed from the engine...............onto the third rail!! :o :o   He died!! :P :P :P :P

As you may be aware, 2 of the loco owners I know have/had safety roles on the railway.

I know of at least one case of a loco failing on a section of track in scalectric country, the driver climbed down from the cab and was killed.

The cause was a failed earth return and hence the whole loco was live thanks to an un-fixed fault on the unit.

As for the idiots that are the general public, I encountered one the other weekend, As I was giving it full stick in the 47 heading north towards I spotted a family walking down the line!

We were the third train of the day as well so its not like it had been quiet!

Given we had 4 coaches, us, plus another 47 and a grid on the back.....it was a heavy train to!

Yep, that is the type of thing we mean!  The other one is the unauthorized enthusiast photographer who think "that" photograph is worth their blood and guts over the front of the loco!! ::) ::) ::)  Seen it in the past all too often! :( :(

What do you think of my shunter!

Thats me 'in the seat'.

We were shunting a couple of DMU cars around and hence the need to move the lab11 coach.

I have to say, shunting with a 47 is not easy!

Great picture Mark, and I just wish I was still a regular footplate volunteer.  You are very fortunate to be involved in such glorious work.

Family and serious work commitments took that away that pleasure some time ago! ::) ::) ::)

Oh to fire WC 4-6-2 34016 Bodmin again, even though at the end of a very hot summer shift you were knackered!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hi Lizzie

Just read your thread about the old slam doors on the brockenhurst to lymington line thats a real shame brings back happy memories. What have they replaced them with some modern EMU I suppose!!
