England World Cup Squad
« on: 01 June 2010, 08:34:35 »

Why is Crouch assumed to be a certainty in the squad? I like him and he has a fantastic goalscoring record....but against who? Trinidad and Tobago, Andorra, Macedonia, Belarus hardly titans. Croatia (OK decent side but that was 3 and a half years ago at Wembley) and Ukraine (again at home) remain the only notable teams he's scored against - I get the feeling that decent international sides can easily handle Crouch....maybe Capello will just use him in the group stage as he does score against minnows, but then if you're not going to use him throughout the tournament, isn't he a bit of a luxury?  :o

My prediction - Crouch to stay home to the shock of everyone in the press  ::) :y

I think he'll take Joe Cole - perfect player for tournaments - he's skillful, smart and can play anywhere - also he can cross a ball....unlike Theo - another player he'll leave out  :(

this is all speculation...and theres a reason i'm not paid £6m a year from the FA and Capello is, but its all good fun and guessing games  :y

Hmmmmm..... Well Crouch is tall & effective when a corners taken as he can be 1st to head the ball down to score or to pass to our forwards. Yes he's gangly but DOES score goals so it'll be interesting to see who's going to the world cup.

I wait with bated breath  :y

I reckon England need more than "hoof it to Crouchie" to get anywhere in the World Cup - great asset tho he is, he does make England (consciously or not) play the old long ball so I'd take him out of the squad and give an extra place for talent like Joe Cole  :y

The bigger debate is why are the likes of Leighton Baines and Glen Johnson in the squad. Wes Brown or even Gary Neville (despite his age) would be a better bet.

My prediction is that we will not win the World Cup IF the squad comes from the 30 players he had in Austria (there is still time for Fabio to give us a few surprises - nothing to say his 23 man squad has to come from his 30 man squad) :y :y :y

England should win their group, then assuming Germany win theirs then England have a relatively easy run to the quarters, then you could have France, South Africa, Greece or Uruguay in the quarters - nothing to be scared of there (thats assuming Argentina win their group of course) so I'd say the semis is a decent shout for England, then a bit of luck...you never know  ::)

Glenn Johnson - yes cos he's a descent player that can only get better. Gary Neville - no!! I'm a huge ManU fan but i'm sorry to say he's lost most of his speed & isn't the player of old altho he has the odd very good game!

How Scott Parker never got in I don't know. Still I suppose he doesn't play for the right club.
