Thank you James for pointing me in that direction, I had assumed it to be a Joke thread so passed it over, as I often do rather than getting offended. :)

I hope he comes back, it's by no means guaranteed  :-[

He's by far the funniest fella on here, Love his sense of humour. It's going to be a bit more boring around here if he stays away... :( :(

I am saddened by Steve's departure, but I nearly quit myself in the last few days, so I can't say I am too surprised.

It's not a problem with OOF, per se. This forum mirrors society and it will wax and wane accordingly.

There is a lot of anger beneath the surface in this country and we have become deeply polarised. OOF merely reflects that situation, as witnessed by the replies to the Chinese takeaway thread.

Albs mentioned the global warming threads (many of which I started) and seemed to suggest that these were off-putting to members. I have not posted on that subject for a long time, but apologise if I caused any "damage" to the forum.

The supposed broken OOF (it's not "broken", IMHO) could easily be fixed by banning all jokes and threads about politics, environmentalism and religion.

We could all post about X-Factor instead.  ;)

Would I still remain a member?

Probably not. :(

Nick, Your threads have a lot of interest to some and not others, but thats no need to stop posting them.

Politics, global warming and busses have all developed long threads, If I have no interest in them then I bypass, but I certainly dont want you or others to stop posting them.

These are issues that people feel strongly about and as the group heading says General Chat that there you go.

We chat, debate and argue over a lot of things, they wont suit everyone, but if those with no genuine reason to post left others to carry on then the thread will last as long as there is interest.

Absolutely, the global warming thread I have little interest in, fine, not a problem, no one forced me to read it..... :)
The bus thread, I popped in and out of as I like old Commercials, could equally have been trucks to me.. :)
I have noticed a change, and not sure why, banter has kept general chat going since I joined, aggressive disagreement is more recent, we are all different and may never agree, but we should be able to agree to disagree without aggressive or offensive replies STMO being the exception ::) but then again why? to a newbie, well............... ::)

Nick,I think I might not have explained my point very well. I was told by 2 or 3 members in recent months that they were fed up with all the threads about global warming. As you know I was a keen (if not particularily knowledgeable)contributor to the threads myself, so wasnt in any way having a dig.
I was making the point that maybe it was a bit of a red herring as the global warming (and political threads in general) have decreased greatly recently, but those people still arent bothering with gen. discussion.
I take the same view as some others, if I am not interested in the subject I dont read the thread. :y.......This is why I said  in another post that I would like the people who dont bother with gen. discussion these days to say why they dont. It might make it easier to fix the problem if everyone knew what the problem was. ;)

I wasn't very interested in the global warming thread either, although it was obviously popular with others. I want to say that I was thoroughly pleasantly surprised at the complete change in you as you started the Nag's Head up again. I had you down as a bit of a politics bore, but the Nag's Head, while not having quite the planned effect, was a very refreshing new part of General Discussion and showed your personality well.

Maybe we should have just a single Nag's Head thread instead of starting a new one each day

I had thought of that, but the problem is that it would become exceedingly long...perhaps. :-/

Certainly the Nag's Head has been fun when it's been open. Maybe we should ask for other comments and suggestions about it.  :y
